Thick lipped gourami question

So I have 1 female thick lipped gourami in a 29 gallon planted tank. I have read that most gouramis do better in groups, and I am wondering if I should consider getting more. Tankmates are 6 harlequin rasboras, 8 cories, 1 electric blue ram that is sick and is probably about to die, I have a different thread on that, and 1 oto(I know they are a shoaling fish but the LFS doesn’t have them yet). Would getting a few more gourami sometime in the future make me overstocked?

The ram died yesterday so now I just have the gourami, the rasboras, the cories and the oto

Assuming you have adequate filtration, and especially if there are live plants, I think you'd be okay with adding two more females, or one male and one female.

Thanks for replying! Do you think if I got 1 more male and 1 more female they would breed?

I suppose it's possible, depending on your water conditions. I haven't kept them, but I have a large group of pearl gouramis in a 40 gallon breeder tank and haven't seen any breeding behavior. I suspect it's because my pH is too high, and the water is too hard.

My ph is 7.6, do you think they would breed in that? I guess I could just get two more females to avoid the possibility of breeding…

I doubt it, but I'm not at all sure. Someone more experienced with them (like jinjerJOSH22) may know.

Always a chance, I don't think the pH is all that bad, things like temperature and lighting are more likely to play a roll.

Pearls seem a little more tricky to get to actually get them in the spawning mood, you don't often here of it accidentally happening. I think DoubleDutch's are the only ones I've seen.

So do you recommend I get 1 male and 1 more female? Or should I stick with all females?

Just got them yesterday ( one male 2 females), and they are settling in nicely! There has been a little bit of chasing from the old gourami, but it has settled down. Here are some pics! The first one is the male and the other 2 are the new females
