Yesterday I went to my local Pet Supermarket to buy gravel for the thirty gallon we're setting up but they were out of the kind I want which is the river pebbles . So of course I went brousing through the fish isle. They have a new fish manager and some other new staff and the girl who manages the fish has been stocking lots of different fish and plants from what they used to stock. I spotted sunset thick lipped honey gouramis and instead of gravel I bought a pair of them 1 male and 1 female . I have never seen them for sale before only the dwarfs and the gold and blue types. They will be going in the 30 with the angel fish. So far the three seem to be getting along fine and the 2 gouramis seem to hang out together. Alison

Hooray! I am amazed they even had them marked correctly! The one I bought was marked as a "red honey gourami". Enjoy! A male & a female! Cool. is there any chance they will spawn and be territorial in the community tank?

I would rather they didn't but they may not agree. They had the latin name I think but I knew what they were from seeing their picture on a post here somewhere. It's hard to miss those lips. I guess they will be sharing the veggies with the Plecs. What are you feeding yours? Alison

I kept three of them for some time. They are my favorite gouramis. They eat everything in the world so you shouldn't have any issues.

I am going to give them a week to settle in before attempting pictures as they seem really shy. I just did a water change the old fashioned way by syphoning and pouring gals of water over my hand rather than trying to figure out the python and scaring them half to death. They haven't come out of hiding yet. poor babies. Tomorrow is going to be frozen blood worms and see if that makes them a little more comfy. So far the angel and the gouramis do not seem to have any issues and my neons and embers are all accounted for. Alison

Mine eats it all so far - but I haven't gotten very adventurous yet. He picks the veggies, but can't tell if he eats them. He eats the flakes, and goes after the sinking pellets after lights out if he sees them.

My 3 were total pigs. They would eat the flakes then race down to eat the sinking pellets. I would always have to feed double the sinking pellets just so my kuhli's and cichlids would get some.

Wondering how they're settling in. I bought a thicklipped gourami, debating on getting him a pair of females.

They are doing great so far. They swim all over the tank and use every level of it. I love their color and they come over real quick with the angelfish when I go up to the tank. Wiggling themselves silly hoping for more food. I am still very pleased with them. If I had a bigger tank or didn't already have Sparky the angelfish than I would probably do a trio just to see how they behave. Every once in a while I will see them go up to each other face to face and give each other a hug with their feelers. Hence the name Romeo and Julliet...Plus the song was playing on the radio in the car that day. Are you going to get some? Alison

Glad to hear someone is having a good experience. I wonder if I got a female us our bully would be any better? Sorry - don't want to hijack.

It might be worth a try to see if it helps. They seem to pay more attention to each other and mine are living with an angel fish, ember tetras, neon tetras, 2 female guppies and a ABN male. The females have a rounded dorsal fin at the back end of the dorsal fin and the males have a pointed end at the back of their dorsal fin Alison
