Can some kind soul please explain what a external thermostat for heaters is please.

I know I sound like a right uneducated moron but I hear people talking about them saving their fish from frying when the heater breaks down. What the are they?

Its a controller that turns the power on or off by a thermostat so it no longer relies on the one in the heater itself. I had one their over rated. Similar to how a timer turns the lights on and off.

    Thanks, David.

I was thinking of getting one but my heater seems to be doing good keeping temperature, it’s off by one degree but I can live with that.

Yeah, I always use inkbird thermostats for my tanks with livestock i dont want to loose, like higher priced fishes. Their just for incase your heater breaks and overheats.
