There's A Beaver In My Culvert!

I took one of my dogs out this morning, and we walked down to the beginning of our driveway, where the culvert runs under. I saw something brown and furry by one of the openings, and at first I thought it was a bunny...then I realized that it was actually the head of a beaver! He came all of the way out of the culvert for a few seconds but then went back in.

He was so cute! I have no idea how he wound up in our culvert. As adorable as it is, I hope he finds a more proper place!

I named him George.

I REALLY had to struggle with the leash! My chocolate lab thought he'd found a new best friend.

Be careful... don't get too close... I hear their bite can be awful.

Speaking of which, did you ever see the "larry the cable guy" bit on beavers... he said that he read in a paper that a beaver bit a guys nipple off... ;D

anyways... just be careful.

Where I live, there are beavers all over the place. I see them all the time... usually they are just searching for what they need and they'll make it back to their home.

it's funny that you mentioned this, I was going to Chunky's in Haverhill, MA... (movie theater), and one ran across the highway! lol weird...

That is kind of odd. Did you actually see its tail? A muskrat can look like a small beaver if you don't see the tail.
I agree that, hopefully, it will find a more proper place. Are there any streams or lakes in the area that have been drying out? It could be trying to find a new home.

I saw the tail, he came all the way out at one point. Definitely a beaver!

I haven't seen him since though. There's a nice looking pond across the railroad tracks nearby, maybe he was just visiting from over there.

Quite possible. It could be that he was "hunting" for saplings to bring back to the lodge.

I thought it was a bit dirty at first - you can imagine my disappointment when I read the real story.

I actually have a special Beaver-Call! Anytime there is a rushing rapid threatening my existance, I call my beaver buddies and they build the best dang dam ever and save me! (And you'd be surprised how many times my life has been threatened by an uncontrollable rushing rapid!)

Beavers Buddies Forever!!

no.. I can't say it.. it's just too easy!

Every time I read the title of this post I think it's a rude nursery rhyme or something like... a rap song!

I always wonder what a culvert is thinking "better not ask"

;D
