The "vicious" pit and the "noble" hound....

I was taking my AmStaff ("pit bull" to many) for a walk this evening. We walked past a house, and in the back yard was a hound mix (beagle/basset, I believe...) who was chained up. It saw Buddy and started to pull at his chain, which must have broke or come loose.... I heard the man yell "Peanut!!" and turned to see this dog charging Buddy. With a growl, it lunged at Buddy's neck. I stooped to pick him up, he whirled around to avoid the attack, and the hound then tried to bite his rear!! I picked Buddy up (all 50 pounds of him!), yelled "stupid dog!!" while ignoring the urge to kick him, and then the man yelled at his dog again.
Buddy never even tried to bite the stupid thing, not even in self-defense. The man offered no apologies, just stood there waiting for his dog to go back to the house. I carried Buddy for several feet, then set him down to check for wounds. Luckily I found nothing but a slight scratch, and Buddy only seemed a little shaken up.

And they say pit bulls are the vicious ones?

Yes..... just because you have a "docile" breed of dog, that's no reason to leave it unattended. What if the dog's chain had broken when he saw a small child walking by? I believe that no dog should be outside unless it's owner is with it. Any dog can attack. Any dog can cause injury or even death. Having a dog or any pet is a responsibility. People just need to be more aware.

I'm glad your dog wasn't badly hurt or bitten. All dogs need to be properly trained and cared for, but people unfortunately don't need to go through half of what they do to buy a car when they have a child or buy a pet. A living creature apparently is a 'no brainer'. (rolls eyes)

I allways thought dogs were no brainers...you feed them, water them, groom them, and play with them. it is beyond me how people can't figure it out.
