The Tranquil Beauty of the Snail

I have always been fascinated by snails ever since childhood, when on a family vacation to Southern California I was delighted to discover that snails come out after it rains instead of earthworms. One of my fondest memories is of the time I was taking a quick smoke break at work and noticing a snail climbing up the wall. I don't know why I did it, I honestly wasn't aware that snails had mouths (though I don't know how I thought they ate), but I plucked a flower petal and held it up to the snail's face. It ate it from my hand! It was such a precious moment. Seriously. And since owning both Nerite and Mystery snails I've grown deeply fond of snails. I can watch them endlessly. I figured there must be others on this forum who also love snails and thought I'd share this little video I made of a few of my Mystery snails. I know the plants are in terrible shape. But, they didn't fare well from shipping then disinfecting then quarantine. I haven't decided what to do about it yet because I'm dealing with multiple crappy aquarium issues at the moment. I won't get into the sad details here, instead please enjoy the tranquil beauty of the snail

We had some HUGE snails that would come out during a rain in Okinawa. If you didn't watch where yiu were stepping though....i can still feel the crunch :/

I do find myself growing ever more fascinated with my nerites and mystery snails...the mystery snails make me think of a fat Tarzan in their tank

I love snails! I had a pond snail outbreak after some hitchhiked in on plants, and at first I despised the little buggers, but after they boomed and levelled out (and I got an assassin snail to help) I realized they rock. Such good cleaners! I have one pond snail who's over an inch long now, I call her big mama, and I love her.

I remember one visit to my dad's in San Diego. I was horrified at how hard it was to avoid stepping on a snail! I, too, still recall the crunch.

I just took this pic of a "pest" snail in my 20 gallon. I love how it's almost completely black, with very little color. I've only ever had brown ones before and was delighted when these black ones popped up.

Yeah, I love my little ship wreck. That's something else from my childhood experience. My dad always had ship wreck themed aquariums. It rubbed off on me for sure.
