I made this video to show the sad life of bettas. Please enjoy!
I saw the tiniest female last week at Petco. She was still there yesterday. I held her awhile then put her back down. I’m going to get her now.I posted this on this forum before, but it didn’t get seen well. I think I out it in the wrong section. So, please enjoy this video I made, and share it if you like it! Thanks!

Sadly this is what Instagram is full of. Search the "#Betafish, #petfish, #Bettafish" And you see this twice ever hour. I go around saying " Sorry bettas need at least 2.5gallons with a heater and filter" Some listen and some just yell at us. Anyway very well put together video. I do have to buy my fish from petsmart BUT I only buy from the petsmarts who care and keep the fish healthy. We do have one store that has bettas sold in 5gallons each but I can't drive 50mins to a place we go twice a year.
oh my goodness that is so cute! Now I feel unbeleivably guilty about keeping and killing my betta in a 1.5g; that was so sad! I think this touched my feelings more than anyone else's.
anyway nice video. good job. way to spread the word

Did you see the pic of my new baby?Aww I’m so glad I helped her and you she will have a great life with you!
I buy bettas from petsmart. Even though it’s promoting petsmart selling betta fish in terrible conditions, I’m still saving them. Yeah, some people just don’t understand what bettas have to go through.
You guys have no idea how happy it makes me when you say that this video inspired you to save a betta..... I’m almost crying because of what Goldiemom said

But there’s another issue... if no Lfs then you have to order from breeders. With shipping that can often cost you $50 to $100 for one betta.Unfortunately, when people save bettas in cups by buying them from big box stores, all the stores see is more demand for bettas in cups. In the long run, the only things that will save fish from being kept in these conditions is
1) Convincing enough people not to buy bettas in cups that stores no longer find it profitable to sell them,
2) Creating enough of a public relations backlash against bettas in cups that the stores decide they are losing more money through bad publicity than they are earning from selling bettas in cups, or
3) Legislation outlawing the practice.
I love this video! Is it on YouTube?
Well, here she is. Is she not the tiniest thing you’ve ever seen? I seeded a tank for her so she’s still in the cup for now. I’ll move her in a couple of hours if tank is cycled. I have to put her in a one gallon for now because both of my QT TANKS HAVE FISH. I feel the one gallon us better than a cup since it has a heater and filter. Next week she can move into a 5G QT tank until my 20G long is set up. Help me think f a name. She’s my first female for my sorority but she will have to grow some first!
Betty is on my list!Oh my gosh, she’s so small! I’m so happy that you got her. She has a great home now. You are making me so happy!!!!! You should name her remi! Or Betty, like another person said. Either way I’m happy

My LFS keeps all their betta in 20g+ planted community tanks with compatible species. Not only does this give them a more fulfilled life while waiting for a buyer, they look gorgeous and are better suited if you want to set them up in a community at home. They charge $19 each, but with the care and their health assured, it's more than worth it.But there’s another issue... if no Lfs then you have to order from breeders. I think more fish stores could do this, breaking the myth that betta HAVE to be solitary fish or that they don't mind the cups, vases and bowls. Or they could at least have a better rack to hold betta than little cups in a holder. You KNOW their mortality rate in the cups has to be astronomical, and something as simple as adding in an automated water change system could help a lot.
Edmonds, Washington, USA. It's best know from their YouTube channel I just happen to live 5 miles from itWhere is this store if you don't mind me asking. I have found one that uses airators in the cups but still use the cups sadly.

Unfortunately (for other people), they no longer ship fish.
Here is the most recent store tour Cory did--most of the betta are in the 'main tanks', about 5 minutes and then to the end. He only mentions them in passing and doesn't focus on them, but about 15 of these tanks have a male betta in them somewhere There are other videos from the past that highlight the store's transition away from a betta rack, to using betta in their communities. One of the tanks he does show has a SchoutedenI puffer with a betta -- two 'aggressive' species, doing just fine together
Hit me SQUARE in the feels it really made me feel bad at first, because when we got a betta for our youngest, only had it in a 1 gallon with no heater. After about 3 months and me doing some research, we have upgraded to a 2.5g and heat for that one!! He is becoming happier by the day! And because of that research, have 3 others now too, all filtered/heated and 3.5g +oh my goodness that is so cute! Now I feel unbeleivably guilty about keeping and killing my betta in a 1.5g; that was so sad! I think this touched my feelings more than anyone else's.

Oh my...this video reminded me of all the times I go in pet stores and see those beautiful Bettas by the dozen, so beautiful, but perfectly still and very sad in their tiny containers. Who could tell if they are shedding tears for the pitiful lives they are leading. So horribly sad. I will always take properly take care of my fish, snails, frogs, etc. and try my best to give them a happy life. Heartbreaking situation for the beautiful Betta!I made this video to show the sad life of bettas. Please enjoy!
