The new 550L discus tank

Phildaint

So after much dithering, me and the Mrs finally got round to setting up the new tank and collecting our fish from their temporary home (a friend has had them since March when we moved out of our rented and then didn’t move into our new bought house until 3 months ago) with the uk lockdowns it’s been a nightmare to move and There was a long wait on this tank to get built.

my friend ended up buying our old 4ft and I’ve told him he can keep the fry from
The spawning pair of alenquers...

It’s a clear seal tank 5ft , 2.5ft tall, 1.5 front to back.

Anyway we moved over all our existing media into our new filters which we had crammed into an old filter.
- 2x oase 600 thermos, and also managed to pack another few kilos of bio home ultimate media in there and for now we’re also running an extra smaller external filter until the nitrites settle (hence the inlet just poking out. There’s an ever so slight raise in the nitrites and I’m measuring it twice a day incase it creeps up but hopefully it should settledown To zero over the next few days.

anyway on with the pics, all Stendker discus along with 2 golden nugget plecos and 35 cardinals. I think we will look at getting some more discus and cardinals after Christmas once everything’s settled down...
We are dosing with TNC liquid co2 (until I can afford a propper setup) and TNC complete ferts daily to help the plants along.

Unfortunately our geophagus died during a heatwave in the summer when the tank shot up in temp whilst my friend was in work so we will Be looking at another pair or a small army of corys

Nice looking set up with some good looking discus. No need for co2 I wouldn’t mess with it. The liquid co2 and ferts will be fine. Put your time into the discus. With substrate you will have to vac often.

It’s going to get expensive dosing 10ml a day compared to a proper co2 system (in the long run)

Discus look nice! I LOVE that pleco as well!

I’m not a co2 user. So I won’t start on my discus tank. All my tanks are planted and I use the api co2 booster. But if your familiar with co2 than use it. I’m just not familiar and don’t know of any using it with discus.
