The mysterious mystery snail clutch.

So I've had 3 full grown mystery snails for a few months now and I had sexed them all as males. So I went ahead and got six more and they came and they were mating right out of the box. Probably 5 hours later I come in and see a clutch! I'm really excited but confused because I didn't think the new ones were large enough to reproduce yet. Do you think it's possible one of them laid a clutch?

I wouldn't think it's one of those. I think they're too small. Mine didn't start breeding until they were larger than that.

I thought so too! Maybe just a weird coincidence that she made it right after adding new ones?

So your first snails were all males, and your new ones just arrived and layed eggs that quick? If the female is new, she was probably already pregnant before she was shipped...I had a female surprise me like that. Two weeks after I got her -with no mating in my tank- she layed six clutches...

Congrats on the 'bonus' snails!

They look really little to have started mating to me. Out of curiosity, how did you sex the ones you already had?

They can store sperm as well, in my experience with a few species of snails, males reach sexual maturity a lot faster then the females.
