Let's get a thread going about the most satisfying things you could see in the fish keeping hobby.

For me:

1. When your sand substrate is absolutely level and perfect and covering everything.

2. When your filters flow perfectly

3. Seeing which fish gets the last pellet. (Usually Spotina because she's huge and everyone else is afraid of her I suspect XD)

Anyway, what's some satisfying things in you guys' aquariums! Post below!

My most satisfying things:

1. Successfully keeping those "hard to keep" fish

2. Having healthy plants for my fish

3. Baby fish!!! I figure if I have babies for some breeds, like the sparkling gourami's, then I'm doing something right.

4. Watching the fish interact with each other in a well balanced tank.

Getting a well established "mature" tank with a harmonious little ecosystem of flourishing plants and peacefully coexisting stock.

Hopefully I can add fry to this list in the future.

Watching my aggressive fish eat.

Always learning something new and knowing that there is no one way to do anything in this hobby.

1. Putting my hands in the tank to do stuff and them nibbling on me.
2. I am currently upgrading tanks and when I put my 3 pygmy/sparkling gouramis in and they settled for a day.... I have never been so enthused by watching a fish's happiness. They have been chasing and flaring and croaking and exploring all over the place just having a blast. And that's exactly why I upgraded. To give them more room to have fun and make new friends

Oh and 3. My kribensis laying eggs even though there wasn't a male in the tank ha. I kinda felt bad though because she was defending those suckers till the very end. Poor confused little girl ha ;P

1. Having fry in the tank.
2. My plants growing crazy out of control
3. Healthy happy fish
4. Feeding them frozen blood worm and brine shrimp
5. Over coming a problem instead of getting rid of a fish. If I buy it, I must keep it.
6. When the tank starts taking care of it self.

This is a definite. Nothing better than bringing a sickly fish back to life and having them thrive again.

When fry that you've raised from birth start making babes of their own, I think that's pretty cool personally my mystery snails from my first 2 clutches just started laying clutches themselves, they grew up so fast on me! There's just something very satisfying about that I think.

And also filters working properly, +1000 for that.

I agree with the babies. I just noticed my yellow Africans had a few. They are about a half inch now. It's so exciting when you know that your fish are happy enough to make babies. I agree on the filters even tough I only run undergravel filters in my 55 and 85. I'm going to be setting up a canister on my 20.

When I had my 40 I had some convicts that went crazy with babies.

Good water tests
New plant growth
Fish getting bigger
Watching the fish sail around in their habitat, zooming through bubbles or "surfing" the power head current - also the "I'm a hungry water puppy, feed me!" dance

When you finally get your aquarium exactly the way you want it. Lighting filtration, plants, stock, tests, etc. are perfect!

I also love to see surprise fry. I always feel very satisfied when I get a fish to breed that is rarely spawned in the aquarium. (Actually, I enjoy the congratulations from other experienced aquarists on such accomplishments!)

I love to see all the stuffed pink bellies of a school of fry after feeding bbs.

I enjoy it when my fish pose for the camera rather than running and hiding.

I get very excited when I get a species that I've been looking for in a store or at auction.
