Happy New Years Hunter !
You can join the I'll never own another canister filter group anytime you want !
Glad it wasn't that bad and you worked it out ..

I’m already on that train. If it wasn’t for the emergency container idk what I would have done! And at 5 am! That was a workout! I’d rather just not have to worry about it anymore. Sponges may just be my new best friend! XD

What a start to the New Year.
Glad to hear, it was not that bad.
Lucky you are! Buy a Lottery ticket tomorrow. LOL

Without a doubt, could have been 10x worse. 30 gallon when my tank leaked.
What a nightmare, it ended up becoming.

Whoa! Thanks for sharing, reminds me I was going to pick-up some leak detectors.

You know what.
I thought about you while I was cleaning it up. I immediately thought “welp I guess my discus will be bucket fish like @jmaldo” lol
Trust me when I said I was feeling the same feelings as you with my “little experience”. I hope 2020 doesn’t continue with these “episodes”.

Hello
What’s a leak detector? Are you discus doing ok since you had to basically start the tank all over again?

Yes the discus are fine. If you can get the water treated and to the same temperature before returning the fish to the tank they usually do fairly well transitioning. Just take a little time to re adjust and get “comfortable” again.

First, I want to say I love your new avatar jmaldo! I’ve got leak detectors on my 2 oldest tanks, but I hope I don’t get lazy and forget to change the batteries, or forget to turn them back on after doing a WC - which I have done before ‘cause I can’t stand the constant beeping until the sensor gets underwater again!

I’m already on that train. If it wasn’t for the emergency container idk what I would have done! And at 5 am! That was a workout! I’d rather just not have to worry about it anymore. Sponges may just be my new best friend! XD
And how old is the baby now? I remember how precious sleep was when my boys were babies - and how I hated anything that got me up earlier than they did!

I think HOB’s are the best filters, even though I have 3 canisters, which I’ll use until they quit, since they came with the used tanks I got.

He’s almost 5 months and yes he wakes up every morning bright and early at 6:30 for at least an hour of hanging out with dad before he falls back to sleep and I get ready to leave for work.

Awww, that’s sweet! I hope you didn’t teach him any bad words New Year's morning while dealing with your tank and filter!

You could set some plants around in pots! That’s what I’m going to do in my 75g.

So how or why did the seem fail ?
Was that part of the original issue or did you really have 2 disasters in a row and pull through ??
Tank looks great ...
Might be something to lottery ticket comment earlier ?

65 seam busted. Got a 75 instead... 15]/QUOTE]

Hello
I was going to get that 65 tall or 75 gallon @ PetSmart. I got the marineland 60 gallon instead(and a 45 gallon marineland)- I’m scared of leaking large glass tanks, so, I figured I’d be safe and go smaller until I find 90-120 acrylic tank on sale. I have laminate flooring installed 2014 and I’ll be sick if I got to replace it cause of leaks.
How do you like the 75 gallon? You can reuse stand for 90 too- think they have same dimensions except height.
I love the 60 gallon- I think the marineland is little better quality than Aqueon now. Oceanic doesn’t make large tanks anymore here.

Yeah I like the dimensions of the 65 when accommodating to the space available in the room but I’m not a fan of the “y’all” tank simply because it was a hassle lifting the buckets shoulder height to fill the tank back up during water changes.
But this is a marineland tank with the black silicone which gives it a much sleeker look which I like a lot more. I love the distribution of weight compared to the 65. So I don’t have to worry so much about loosing level over time. I keep sections of thick rubber mat under my stand anyway helps with water dripping from buckets but also keeps tank level. Overall I’m satisfied with the look and feel of the tank better than the 65. And I now have space for more fish!

So how or why did the seem fail ?

The seam fail was the original problem with the tank as to why I resealed the first time. Once I removed the silicone and checked where the leak was located I notice it had separated almost 4 inches across the bottom of the tank in the front center out toward both corners. Unless I would have completely taken the tank apart glass and all and tried to glue and seal it again it would take 10x’s the amount of time and effort to fix so it was a lost cause imo. Out with the old and in with the new! Surprisingly with where the detached seam happened it held up much longer than I expected. I guess just overtime the pressure from the weight of the water pushed down and caused the seam to separate more and more leading to the leak in the tank. But I have yet to even bother looking at the canister (have looked away and don’t really want to look back) for the sake of knowing I can never clean the head casing where the impeller is located I am content with letting go of the canister. Every water change it would eject brown gunk into the tank from inside the head of the filter. It would clear itself up after a few minutes but it was a mess so I’m over it.

Great looking fish. What size tank is that? For some reason they look smaller than 5 1/2 ". Have to check out Hans website, wonder what other types he has?

I do not miss the frozen weather up north, like it much better in south

If only I could tap my heals three times and be in Florida.

Accumulating!!!

So a lot has happened in the last week. Got my Christmas rams from coralbandit got a group of 4 2 male 2 female. Had an unsuccessful first attempt at sending rams in cold weather. 2nd time all 4 made it alive and well. Arrived Wednesday did water change on Friday and was surprised to see eggs had been laid!
Now me being new to the ram thing I wasn’t expecting these little fish to jump the gun on me so soon! And these little fish hold their own! They do not back down from the discus and are just as aggressive at feeding time so I guess you can say they “fit right in”. Anyway, the eggs, so I did a little research and learned that rams eggs usually hatch within 35 to 40 hours. At this time of you see little tiny tiny specks sliding across the surface of wherever the eggs were laid, it means you have a confirmed male and female pair and eggs have matured to the “wiggler” stage. Well I have good news and bad news! Bad news is, I lost at least 2/3 of the batch of eggs (turned white) but, good news is that I have a successful 1/3 batch of wigglers! I was shocked so it’s day one of wigglers and the parents have made sure to corral them in the terra-cotta pot and keep them safe. My hopes are high however I didn’t expect to make it this far! Interesting little fish that definitely make you think “it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the fight in the dog.” But in this case it’s fish! Lol my head is still spinning!

Wood is down. Fixed the canister and have only sponge in it. Using it as a giant “sponge” filter pretty much. No eggs from the rams since first batch. Tank filled completely now. Temp is right around 84.6 give or take a few points. Still changing 50% water weekly. So far I’m happy with this new 75 set up.
