XP I got some pics to revive the thread. Disclaimer: I went fishing, get over it. I use barbless hooks and take care not to damage the fish, unless of course it goes to a fishing companion.

The fish are all Florida Bluegill, aka copper nose. Males have the bright copper faces. The GBH is my fishing buddy, I throw him a fish or 2 when I go.

This is a burrow dug into the bank by a 2ft sailfin pleco. This is the reason why I don't think they belong in tanks Couldnt get in shots of the pleco.

The plants on the far bank are what the baby tear look like here, they grow in HUGE matts that stick up out of the water. The up close pic is of some baby tear and some other aquatic plant, was hoping for an ID on it, its real pretty.

I found a skink just now. I was amazed it held still long enough to take a picture. He looks like he dropped his tail recently, it's pretty short.

GROUND SKINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Love it <3 <3 <3. The tail regrowth is old, probably a year or so.
I found a very very interesting armored beetle tonight while on a walk, carried him 3 miles home. I think you will all love him when I get pics tomorrow, hes a 2 horned Rhinoceros beetle.

I love rhino beetles.

Do their tails not grow back nearly as long once the original falls off? I've seen them twice as long.

Nope, their tails grow back short and less structured. In many species they loose the bones/muscles. The regrowth also depends on how well fed/healthy the animal is and what time of the year. In the spring and summer when their metabolism is at its highest their tail can grow in long, in the winter and fall when its lower its more likely to stay short. His tail is decent imo.
If you look at Leopard Gecko tails theirs are a bit special.

They have a segmented tail. Its all muscle and fat storage for the most part. Each individual segment can be dropped starting with the tip. Though normally, they go ahead and drop 4-6 segments at a time. Its useful if part of their tail gets crushed, infected, damaged. Then the affected segments will fall off or the vet can simply amputate them from the rest of the tail. When a Leos tail regrows it looks like a fat, unsegmented lump Though, we always ALWAYS strive to get the tail to grow back as pointed as possible.

How long do you think he'll live for?

I also have a contribution, after two days of non stop torrential rain we finally had a break today, and this laughing kookaburra came in to get worms from our compost. There's also a noisy miner bird behind him, but he has his back to the camera so he's really hard to see.

Found these weird fungI outside of work, growing in the mulch bed. They used to grow at school too, and I remember that they smelled awful, but only if you stick your face into them. The ones at school where bigger than these ones and they would have these black globs of tar like stuff all over their "petals" I'm pretty sure that they're carnivorous, feeding on flies and other things like a pitcher plant would. I've always wanted to know what they were called but I have no idea where to start looking.

This is really interesting! For the first time I feel inspired to pull out my camera. There are woods behind our house which I'm sure has lots of interesting stuff in it. Next time I head out there I'll have to take my camera along.

Had a nice day off of work and went to the lake.

that is so awesome that you have lake nearby. What kind of snail is that? That is one huge snail.

I'm surrounded by lakes, it's NH. I have 4 w/in 10min of my house, 3 can swim in.
That is a trapdoor asian mystery snail. They are not native and this is the 2nd one I've found there. I can't believe I found another one in the same spot as before. Apparently they're breeding, not good in our waterways.

I took samples of the weeds to identify later. One is millfoil, a noxious weed. I will grow inside. I need to get as much as I can before they treat the lake and it dies. Going back SAT w/ a bucket.

This one may be a little hard to see, but last fall I was parked at a truck stop in Smiths Grove, KY and a flock of about 30 sparrows flew by. I saw a flash of green in the middle of the group. A budgie (parakeet) had taken up with this group of sparrows. Crazy.

Well, turns out that buzzard I posted has been here since Wednesday. And it's injured. We're about to call the wildlife rescue.

EDIT: Found the number for the local rehabilitator. Since it's about to storm here, she said she'd come out tomorrow and try to get him if we can find him and keep him in one area.

You could try feeding him some meat, I would get some ground chuck or something, unless there is some road kill close by...

What to Do When You Find Injured Wildlife

1. WHAT TO DO FIRST

Do NOT give it any food or water

That was on the site I found the rehabilitator's phone number from.

I know, I was 1/2 joking, but IDK what else you could do to keep it in the area.

It's been hanging around this neighborhood since Wednesday. It's not going to go anywhere else, I don't think .
