Thai Micro Spider Crabs

I have 5 of them coming in from an order I placed online. I have been cycling their tank for a few weeks now and my readings are great but I wondered if anyone else has had any experience with them/success and any hints/tips. Right now water temp is 77-80, I've got cholla drift wood, a bit of Catappa, water lettuce, hornwort, and minimal gravel on the bottom. Their only tank mates will be 2 cherry shrimp.

Although I know the ThaI micro spider crabs ARE fully aquatic unlike the fiddler, I am wondering how adventurous they are and wondering how concerned I should be that they will try to escape like fiddlers.

Thank you for any insights!

Never had them, or even heard of them so you made me go googling From an ad for them"

"Additional notes: ThaI Micro Crabs need hiding places such as caves or plant cover (such as java moss, anubias barteri, green cabomba, etc.). They tend to make frequent escape attempts, so it is best to keep them in an aquarium with a cover."

I would say you need to watch for escapes Take some pics when you get them all set up!

I will be taking as many pics as I'm able - from what I understand they are hard to catch out and about until they're really comfy in their new homes. I also forgot to mention that I will be installing a java or other moss carpet for them as well. Glad I piqued your interest!

From everything that I've read they should be fine - however, they won't have access to the shrimp in the aquarium anyway - they'll be in a separate compartment. From what I understand the micro crabs do well with fish and other peaceful inhabitants around their own size - they pose little to no threat to their tank mates. From what I understand usually the main thing to fear is crabs being picked on.

Keep us posted, if they work out I might just give them a go as well...

I haven't heard of them, but years ago I had some wild caught micro crabs from a freshwater lake in Australia, they looked identical to yours, so might've been the same or a similar species. I had them in with swordtails and platys and they did well. They're quite interesting to watch, I could imagine keeping them with shrimp too

Not sure if these are the same because they only live in one River in Thailand but they are cool in any regard!

So far so good. From everything I've understood they take similar conditions to crystal shrimp. They need great water And regular maintenance because of that. Other than that they are pretty low maintenance and they do not try to escape from your tank so that's really nice.

I've read a post from a keeper who said he added them to a specially prepared tank with hiding places and never saw them come out again, though he knows where they are hiding.

I've heard that a ton too. I went with a very small tank so I'd get the chance to see them. I really don't think I'd ever see them in a bigger tank.

Hay, once you get them in your tank could ya send a picture?
I googled them and caves or heavily planted tanks seems to be a common need.
I think if you just put in some bushy type plants you might see them more clinging to the plants then if you give them caves to hide in.
I know my shrimp hide amongst my driftwood but come feeding time they are all out, I bet crabs are the same way.

How many are you going to get?

Ya go my interest sparked...

I ended up getting 5. They seem to be doing really well in my tiny tank.

They are in the top compartment, 2 cherry shrimp in the middle, a small snail in the end.

Awesome, that tank set up is really neat too -where did you get? Do you know what's it called?

Ah, ok, they definitely look the same though, maybe a similar or related species? For a long time I thought they had died (as mentioned you often don't see them), them I'd be watching my fish and all of a sudden a few tiny crabs would march past lol

The tank is called betta Falls but I definitely don't recommend putting any fish in, much too small
