Tfreema’s Fish Tanks

So, I have gotten moved to a new house and through some life events that have distracted me from tank scaping, etc. It’s time to start working on it.
I am going to post pictures of all my tanks. Some I am happy with, others need some help. Advice is welcome!

Starting with largest. My 120 and the only tank without live plants. I plan to add live plants, but keep the two logs.
2 leopard ctenopoma, brts, 2 bn plecos, 5 yoyo loaches, 3 queen Dario botia loaches.

bc59d917b0e611ecc2e2fcfec62ffe16.jpg

55 gallon. Kinda thrown together when I had to pull some wood that was rotting and shedding.
4 angelfish, 15 cories, 3 Siamese algae eaters, several nerite snails.

45 gallon. I like this one. 6 peppered cories, 8 von rio tetras, 1 bn pleco, 1 bamboo shrimp, 10 ghost shrimp, about a hundred ramshorn snails (really more like 50, but they are out of hand again).

40b gallon. 1 angelfish, 6 rummynose tetras, 13 kuhlI loaches, 2 Siamese algae eaters, several nerite snails, soon to have 2 electric blue acara added.
Considering moving this big piece of wood to 120 and rescape this one with some of the pieces at the end of this post.

30g Long. 2 Bolivian Rams, 4 synodontis catfish (lost two need to get back up to 6), 11 celestial pearl danios, yellow longfin bn pleco, ghost shrimp, red cherry shrimp, nerite snails

26g bow front. 1 kribensis, 7 neon tetras, 5 otos, 2 nerite snails.

20g Long. Kinda happy with this one too.
2 African dwarf frogs, 2 feeder guppies, ghost shrimp, nerite snails.

This is actually downsized to get into single digits. Had 15 at one point, but that is just too much work! Some were fry tanks, but still way too many. 8 is much more manageable.

Here are the pieces I have to use for rescapes.

I also have several more cichlids stone caves as well as several really fake looking stuff from my early days, lol.

These are the two that were rotting and shedding. I have not thrown them away yet because they are so cool looking. I wonder if they can be treated by boiling or soaking??

****, I wouldnt be able maintain that many tanks lol, one is more then enough for me haha.
I'm not sure I think boiling just makes it rot faster.
I love spider wood though they always add character to the tank.
the rocks and wood are all pretty interesting looking so it must have been fun playing around with them

Plants are beneficial in the fact that they provide oxygen, filtration, and shelter for fish. They also provide food for some fis( and shrimps.

I have to agree. I just keep adding more and it has not been too many yet! The 120 is going to take a lot. Hopefully the loaches will not destroy what I put in there.

It is a challenge, but I got a system down and the python water changing system helps a lot with weekly water changes. The plants seem to take more time than anything these days.

I know! I picked up the two spider wood pieces and some of the rocks in trade for some angelfish fry. I would like to find a place for them.

In the 120?
There are two pieces that are fake logs from petsmart. They are hollow so my loaches and bn plecos love to hide out in them. I have to keep them whatever else I do with the tank.

Nice set of tanks you got there! The plants all look like they’re thriving. I love seeing all your available hardscape, I don’t know how you manage to get any work done with all those toys!!!

Thank you! I definitely got the MPS disease going on.

Some were previously in tanks. Downsizing has left me with extra stuff. Others I picked up as trade for angelfish fry or impulse buys.

What do you think about me moving the large piece of wood from the 40b to the 120 as I work on switching it to planted? And if I do that, what out of my hardscape choices should I use for 40b that will need good cover for my kuhlis?

Thank you! I feel like that one is missing a focal point. You don’t know where to rest your eyes on it. It is more functional in providing catfish, shrimp, and pleco cover than being scaped well. Whatever I do with it, the ludwigia reopens and anacharis cannot be moved. Those are some of the few stem plants I have successfully kept alive. The anacharis is a tangled mess because I do not pull any off and want the floating effect to provide cover for my rams.

I think that sounds fine! I would use the spiderwood pieces and attach anubias or java fern or something similar for the kuhlis. When I kept them, they loved climbing driftwood and being up high.

So, I got these two beauties in the mail yesterday from Lchi87 to add to my 40b. They are a proven pair and just stunning. Keep in mind, this is after being shipped and just a few hours in a new qt tank.

6a0d9399c3663ecbcd721f6e312b09cd.jpg

Well, I stayed home today to recuperate from being at the hospital with my son. I walk through the fish room checking tanks a few minutes ago, and only see one of the acara’s in the qt. I look under the cave, behind the sponge filter, EVERYWHERE in the tank, but no fish. So I start looking around the tank, NOTHING! Then I get down and look under the stand and there she lays! She had evidently jumped out through the slot intended for a heater that is not submersible. I grab her and held her in the tank water, at which time her little gills start moving and she swims out of my hand!

I have hard wood floors and she was in a top tank so she fell a good 4 feet and no telling what she bounced off on the way down.

She seems a little off kilter and her fins are clamped. I am hoping she is just in shock and no internal damage occurred. There are no visible injuries. I have now blocked that hole with a small net. I have the lights out and leaving them alone for a while so her stress is reduced.

The male (I am assuming the larger one is the male) was frantically swimming around and then was all over her checking on her, not leaving her side when she was back in the tank.

I am so mad that I did not think about them jumping out through that cutout!!
But, I am also thankful that I am home today and noticed before it was too late (at least I am praying it was not too late!).

My stomach is in knots and I am extremely anxious for her. I will be doing a 50% water change with prime and stresscoat after she has had a bit to calm down. Then I will add some artemiss.

I'm glad they arrived safely!!! That had to be so scary finding her on the ground like that!! Thank God you were home to find her!

How long do you plan to keep them in QT? You might want to make the quarantine tank more breeding friendly haha...like Maybe some sand....cuz my female laid eggs less than 2 weeks after I got her. So....you might have them spawn in QT (assuming the female bounces back quickly)

It was and still is very scary hoping she will fully recover.

I have a flat stone in the qt so hopefully that will suffice. I am looking at about 4 weeks and maybe longer now that I don’t want to introduce parasite meds until I know she is strong enough.

I am not currently interested in raising fry so an unsuccessful spawn will be ok. I only have the 20H they are in and 10 gallon tanks to use for fry. These will need a 40b. I will probably pick one up at the next $1 per gallon sale to be ready In the future. That will still keep me in the single digits at 9 tanks, lol.

Thank you! I will be doing some rescaping on some and adding live plants to my 120 if my loaches will allow.

That is why I wound up with so many tanks. I would want new fish that don’t fit in my current stock or size tanks so another tank would go up, lol. There are still so many more I would like to have, like parrots, cichlids - mbuna and shellies, crabs, etc for freshwater. That does not even include my dream to break into the saltwater world.
I had to stop somewhere though because each tank takes at least 30 minutes a week for water change, plant care etc, longer for the ones that need monthly filter maintenance (2 a week) and canister cleaning (1 every other week).

I actually had 15 tanks at one time due to a large angelfish spawn that I thought I had to raise most of - 90 in that batch.
That broke my ever growing MTS because it was just so much work that I couldn’t enjoy them. Now I have limited myself to single digits not counting quarantine tanks. With 8, I can add a 40b fry tank for my new acara or angelfish fry that would only be set up when growing out.

My big EBA (the one going back to LchI actually!) took a trip to the floor before he got to my house, and he pulled through fine. Here's hoping your girl will recover too!

The scary part is not knowing how long she was laying there. I thought she was a goner for sure when I picked her up. She does seem to be swimming around more normally now.

Great news! Glad to hear she's ok .

I've had a few larger fish jump out of my tanks years ago and never lost one due to those incidents. My arowana was an escape artist. He jumped out when he was 5", 8" and 10" from a very well covered tank.

The only other open spot is around the filter and it takes up the whole cutout so I pray they cannot jump out there. I am really nervous about it now.

I wouldn't worry too much. Acaras aren't known to be jumpers and it was probably just a fluke.

Quick update. The EBA has been doing good so tragedy narrowly averted. I plan to do 30% water changes with prime and stresscoat every other day, and adding artemiss, and vitamins.

I am also adding stability and prime daily just to make sure the cycle is good. The nitrates were not showing high enough for my comfort at about 5, but there is 0 ammonia and nitrites. I had moved filter media and a sponge filter over from the main tank to the qt for an instant cycle.

One of my RCS in the 30 gallon came out from the java moss to hang out in my mess of anacharis. I wonder if I will get RCS babies? There are six in the tank so it is likely, I think, once they are a little bigger.

Also in the 30g, here is Bej that I got from bizaliz3. He is a yellow blue eyed pleco that thinks he is hiding, lol. Definitely a he with those bristles coming in nicely.
