20 Gallon Tank Texas to Florida move

SlyDeVekio

Ok, now I am moving from Huntsville Texas to holiday Florida. Long trip eh. So this what I came up with a lot of thought, correct me if any of this steps I have taken are wrong could be better. With that being said, I have purchased these items for my little family that I have been caring for about just before Christmas or around so. Items- 5 gallon Texas insignia tatted bucket with lid, Tetra internal power filter-5-10g, Aqua culture aquarium air pump with line check valve and air stone, and small aqueon heater, Everstart plus 400 watt power inverter, plus three way splitter. I have taken two gallons from tank and poured into bucket. Set the depth of internal filter, one gallon tap water spiked with aquasafe. Now I’m running 3g with filter leaving one gallon for day of tank break down. Also took one small bag of biomax from tank main filter added to bucket. You now, for the bacteria. Do have plants in tank also. Not substantial but they seem to be thriving. Now, trip is going to take about 20 or so hrs. I will most likely to be on the road by Saturday or Monday the latest. Can they survive this voyage with all I have prepared, plants included? Any and all input would really be appreciated.

Hard to tell my opinion, as you obviously have prepared a lot already, which I find amazing.

But nevertheless: I would rehome community fish before such a move and buy new fish at my destination. Less stress for everybody involved. But I would definitely take plants and especially cycled media with me, so a kickstart at the new home is easily done.

Maybe fast them the day before you leave and during your drive? Might reduce the waste in the buckets.

Yes already thinking to do. I have feed them good since this post. Tonight I exchange the biomax for the other that is in main filter. I do run a aqueon 75 in this tank. It out performance any smaller ones with dual cartridges and all. The current those not bother these kind of species. They do come from streams and rivers from my understanding. I even run a 195g powerhead to the right of tank for 3hrs a day for god measure. They seam to really thrive. I am no expert but from my observation they seem to do okay. Back to moving, bucket is doing good. Now tomorrow I will take a gallon out of bucket and put a gallon in from tank to keep it fresh. Feeding stops tonight cause Friday either night or Saturday morning we ride. Was wondering if I was too take ten gallons in two buckets from tank for the destination, would the water hold.

I can not leave my buddies behind I have given this a lot of thought and made many preparations for these little critters. Even taking ten gallons from tank with me for when I reach my destination. I think the water will survive 24 hrs before it goes bad now I could be wrong and your suggestion was correct but I have to try. Thank you for your input. It is truly appreciated. I will keep you all posted as I progress. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Aeration as I spoke off

That’s truly impressive. You moved almost across the country and didn’t lose a single fish. Congratulations

Dude, I recommend to whoever has to move to do this. You are correct that I did not lose a single friend. Best of all the ten gallons I dragged with me helped me out with re establishment of tank on other end. **** even bought new life for my tank. Thank you for your kind words and hope this helps anyone that cannot part with their babies and have too have them. I had good experience with what I did. Just make sure you get the right equipment for travel. Putty sure it will work
