Tetras Not Schooling

Brad Pervell

Good Morning
I have several different types of tetras in my 55 gallon. Seperas, black skirt, red eye, black phantoms, diamond, and neons. It looked so good when they schooled with their groups. But now other than neons they do their own thing. Why no schooling?

Maybe not enough room? How many in each school do you have? I'm not an expert but maybe sounds like a lot of fish.

I have 3 to 5 of each type. Some passed. But these guys are over 7 months in tank. All look good and healthy.

That's great that they are not schooling. It means they are comfortable in the tank and don't feel threatened. My schooling fish don't school very much either and I take it as a personal compliment!!lol

Hey THANKS!!!!

But they looked so cool swimming in a bunch

WinterSoldier.

My neons never school, fish only school if they feel threatened

Schooling is a defensive behavior from threat, when they settle down and feel threatless, they will not school... You can make them school by adding a big bully fish in the tank. But that would keep them always stressed and not recommended...
