I had gotten the 10 gal kit from walmart and is cycling for 3 weeks now. Has a heater with preset and keeps it at 79F. During that time I had researched fish that will be happy in the set up. I had decided the Betta. The concern is the current. I had done the bottel trick. Is it ok for betta?

IME, whisper filters are pretty weak and a betta should be fine with one.
Thank you for your opinion. My main goal is to give it a good life while keeping me happy.
Have you done a tank with the betta and that type of filter?

I have tanks with bettas. My 20 long sorority has a combo of a Tetra Whisper and a sponge, and no torn fins or signs of turbulence.

Maybe it’s because of the larger tank size. A 10 gallon may be much more affected by flow.

The bottel trick diverts the current to the sides. Would it still be ok, and are there sinking pelets?
