Tetra Whisper 10 Air Pump Questions?

I bought the Tetra Whisper 10 gallon air pump for my tank, and am wondering if I should leave it on top of my gravel or bury it? Is it okay to bury the air pump?

Can the air pump be routed to the outside of the tank? If so, will a check valve still be needed, or is a check valve only needed if the pump is submerged?

I've read that I have to cut my tubing to insert a check valve; do I have to cut the tubing?

Thanks for future responses!

First off, if this is the whisper 10 air pump it MUST be outside the tank. It takes ambient air and pumps it into the tank.

Now for the rest. You can bury air stones in the substrate with no problems, I have a 12inch one buried against the back of my large tank to create a bubble wall.

A check valve is always a good idea just in case. I would recommend it no matter what, however if you decide not to use it you would want to put the air pump above the water level. When installing a check valve make sure that the arrow points away from the pump and towards the tank end of the tubing.

Good morning,

I have moved your thread from Freshwater Tank Equipment to Freshwater Tank Equipment/Air Pumps section of the forum.

Good tips from Pirahnah3 above.

Okay, so the 4'' air-stone is putting out way too much bubbles, it's freaking my Betta out. I sorta thought it might. Anyway to decrease the level of bubbles going through, I've tried burying the airstone with a ton of gravel, but it still puts out a lot. I'm gonna upload a video soon and maybe you can tell me if it is indeed too much.

I've managed to kink the hosing with a bag clip (I know..), and the bubbles are perfect right now, but I know that's not a permanent solution. I'm using the Whisper 10 gallon air pump and a check valve, but is there anything else I can get to manage the pressure of the air pump?

I've seen gang valves can help me out, thus replacing my check valve. Any recommendations for a decent one?

any will really do, thou I wouldnt say it will replace the check valve but It will certainly add another layer of smaller protection.

A gang valve doesn't replace a check valve; it allows air to be shared among several airstones with a pressure regulator controlling how much air goes to which.

I've read that the expensive metal gang valves are better than the cheapplastic ones, but my plastic valves work fine.
