Tetra Test Strips with app reader

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the Tetra 6 in 1 test strips with the app that automatically reads it? The app has terrible reviews but most of them aren’t complaining of that component, more the ability to add in the correct fish. I’ve always heard the liquid is better than test strips but I’ve seen a few videos by some very reputable people on YouTube who say they’re close to the same in accuracy for most people. If that’s true and the app reader worked well, that would be a huge time saver. I have my doubts though. I just know that I’m getting tired of the issues with reading pH and nitrate on the API Master Kit.

I didnt know there was an app reader! I use tetra strips along with the apI kit, and they are very accurate, but strips get a bad rap from other inaccurate strips.

I hear you, strips are super easy. I’d be open to supplementing my liquid tests with strips once in awhile. You should try them out with the app and report your results

It's just that the app seems a little to good to be true. Because of the way strips work, you can't have ammonia on the 6-in-1, but they do make a 2nd strip. There's another app from JBL Proscan that has good reviews, although only a few. I don't think they have ammonia though. I was hoping someone here had tried the app. I haven't found many reviews out there except for videos from the company.

So, I tried the Tetra automatic reader in the app. The app is largely garbage when it comes to adding fish to it. There are only a limited number of species to add (they don’t have any shrimp). However, I only got it for the test strips reader. Unfortunately it’s not super helpful either. It will give you a results section that gives you basically a pass/fail results. The pass criteria are predetermined based on what kind of aquarium you have (tropical, cichlid, betta, reef, etc.). Unfortunately, as you and I both know, sometimes the default parameters are not correct depending on your specific species. Some fish need harder water; some need more alkaline. There’s no way to access what number it reads. Also, if you click off the results, you can’t get back to them. They’re not stored at all. These seem like easy fixes, but judging from the reviews on the App Store, it doesn’t sound like Tetra is very responsive to fixing things. Oh well. It was a good thought but a waste of money.
