Tetra Sitting In Corner Breathing Heavily

I have an ember tetra sitting in the corner of my tank gasping for air.
I have lost 2 cherry shrimp and one ember tetra in the last 72 hours.
The ember tetra that I lost had a very large belly, not sure what it was.

The tetra that died the other day had shown signs of swim bladder issues before death and the currently sick one is showing the same signs. Only difference is the first fish was sitting at the surface and the current fish is sitting on the bottom.

Any ideas?

nitrite 0
nitrate 5

 

What size is your tank and how many fish are in it?

 

Temp? Have you changed anything in the tank recently? Can you put some seachem prime in?

 

10g with 14 embers and 6 red cherries
the tank is quite heavily planted. the last change occurred about 3 weeks ago when I added the shrimp.
Everybody was doing great until the other day.
temp is is about 76

 

When was your last water change, may e you got something in the water. Perhaps a large water change to make sure.

 

I've been doing 10-15% daily for the past 3 or 4 days.

Do we think fasting the tank for a day or two is wise?

 

If nothing has changed, I wonder if your source water has a problem? You could try using spring water treated with some baking soda to raise pH/KH. Or, buy water at LFS just to see if that's the problem...

 

I have more than one tank and this is the only one showing problems, thus far.
I have been monitoring and no changes in other tanks. and I have had a few tanks up for a few years and the tank in question is about 3 months in.

 

Are you checking the temp by a thermometer or just the heat setting? One of my tetra's is doing that because my temp is up for ich treatment.

 

Checking by thermometer. I think it is some illness, but can't be certain.
