Tetra Safestart?

    Hi all,

I decided to set up a 10 Gallon (another one.) as an emergency tank. (Was given unwanted fish by a moving friend.) But this time, will be using Tetra SafeStart to get a cycle going...

I bought a bottle (Tetra SafeStart PLUS) about a week ago, and didn't know what to do with it, so basically I put it on the shelf, half of it is left.

So my question is, how do I cycle this tank using this product? Is the bacteria still alive? Or? How can you tell if it's alive? And not a faulty bottle?

Is half a bottle enough for 10 Gallons?

Why not start it with half the media from your other tank (or a dirty poly fibre when you change the filtration)? Not sure how you're set up but if you already have 1 cycled tank it's easy to make it 2 cycled tanks out of what's already growing. Even moving some decor/plants/whatever from the established tank into the new one works. Just remember to feed the bacteria ammonia in some form and keep it wet at all times
