75 Gallon Tank Test kit and using dyed medication

I noticed I had on my fish. I contacted lbs and was told they use ich x and it is safe for live plants, snails, and shrimp. I have been dosing and doing w/c as the bottle suggested for 8 days now. I read on the bottle that the meds may give off the chart readings for ammonia if using a nessler test. I use the api master test kit. I did some research and it appears api is a silicate based test kit that uses colors of yellow to green. The nessler test uses brown shades. I know ich x has a dye in it (i think it is malachite green, maybe). Has anyone ever used a test kit with medication that contains a dye and if so how did it affect the results?

I did a test on my tank today, because it has been 8 days since my last test and with daily water changes I figured it had to be ok. My results from the test today were pH 6.6 to 6.8 and it has never been that low, usually staying at about 7.4 to 7.6. Ammonia 0. Nitrite 0. Nitrate 0 to maybe 5. I am shocked at the pH drop. I thought I would ask if anyone had experience with dyes in meds and test kits. Should this be a concern?

I've never experienced this but wanted to let you know someone is listening. :) Before getting concerned I would complete the treatment. Some medications can skew the test results so it is best not to do anything until the treatment is complete.

I am seriously thinking about stopping the treatment. Today would be day nine of treatment. I have one fish that has been stressed beyond belief. She will not stop going up and down the glass… it’s been going on for 5 days (also not eating). All the other fish seem fine. Two african butterfly fish are fine and eating. Pearl gouramis (3) are fine and eating. Snails and shrimp fine. The bottle of ich x says to stop treatment if stress persists. I am so confused and so worried. Then my hubby brings home glass catfish today!!!! (Yes it was a huge argument). His thinking: if these fish have anything your treating so it should take care of anything they have. (Stupid I totally agree). But they are here…. So i floated bag for 15 min. Did 1/3 water change and now they are in a bucket and I am adding water from tank. Added a lil waited 10 minutes then repeated for a total of 30 min, adding a little more tank water each time. I am beyond the mad stage… it’s $100 worth of fish that he brought home and if they die I will be devastated! Still debating whether to continue with ich treatment…..

Oh my goodness. I am so glad my hubby isn't involved with my tanks so would never get fish without me being there to say yes or no.

The product does recommend you stop the treatment if fish are stressed. It seems yours are so it might be a good recommendation to follow. I have never had to deal with ich so take anything I say as just guessing.

I think he was trying to cheer me up after loosing one rope to the jump of death. I have made the decision to stop treatment with ich x and monitor both stress and white salt speckles for 48 hours. I completed a 1/3 water change. Added the ultimate water conditioner instead of prime, just in case there are still meds in the water (which there probably are). It has been 30 minutes and the rope seems a little better. She is still swimming up and down, but doesn’t seem as frantic and head jerking isn’t as pronounced as it has been the past 5 days.

Although probably not the best thing to do but was actually a very sweet thing to do. :)
