I saw the most sweet male ballon mollie the other day, yellow with white spots and such a CUTE turned up nose, may have to go down that route too!!

To stay on the subject of balloon mollies, I've moved our two posts from the betta picture galleries to this new thread.

---

I adore balloon mollies. The only thing is I feel I have to boycot them because their shape is the result of selective breeding that can be characterised as cruel. They are bred for a spine deformity, which has at least the following disadvantage:
- their organs are all crunched up
- the wear and tear on their muscles/bones from swimming is precipitated from their non-hydrodynamic shape
- giving birth can be fatal to some of them (one of mine nearly didn't survive giving birth to her first batch)

I've been 'lucky' enough that my normal mollies seem to carry the gene for that difformity, so I get baby balloon mollies once in a while, but I've resisted getting a new one from the shop.

On the plus side, they are definitely, in my experience, more relaxed that their slender-shaped counterparts. And more curious about humans. You notice it in tanks at the LFS too, I find.

Am from Belgium, but lived a huge chunk of my life in the UK. Never really lived in Belgium as an adult, actually, so I feel more British at times. I moved to Holland from Manchester about 5 years ago, and really don't like it here, but husband loves it (well he would, he's Dutch).

I have no idea how to research that part of my family though! It's my dad's side, his mum's dad. His dads side Irish decent somehow.
