Temperature and Goldfish

I've had a red capped oranda goldfish in my tank for some 2-3 years. The biggest gripe I've had with my aquarium is that the water temperature could never be lower to be more comfortable to my goldfish. For most of the day the water temperature is 76 F and lower during nightime. Is this temperature good for my goldfish?

 

That's completely fine. Perfect even. The whole "goldfish are cold water fish" is EXTREMELY exaggerated. Don't sweat it, just keep it below 80, and make sure there aren't any huge temp fluctuations (which can kill goldfish sometimes) to a much hotter or lower temp than what they were in.

I'll even go a step further and say mine get to 82 sometimes with no ill effect. I agree you don't need to worry. Goldfish handle most temps just fine.

Yeah. 82 would be a little warm for them to be in all the time, but it definitely shouldn't hurt them. I find around 73-77 to be the ideal temp for my fish normally. But colder or warmer doesn't hurt, just not hot.

 

I visited my lfs yesterday to ask if they would take my accidental goldfish fry when they grow up a bit more. Parents, bought from that same shop, are around year old now, and I always had them in 24 to 26 celcius. They were stunned, since they say that all goldfish are strictly cold water fish, but obviously my fish are super comfortable and healthy since they spawned spontaniously in community tank. I hope that opened their minds even a fraction.
