Temp Problems Worried About Fish

My a/c decided to quit working today and my house is getting really hot. My tank temp is rising and right now is at 86 and my poor fish are used to a steady 78. Is there anything I can do to cool it down that was cause it to fluctuate back and forth? I don't want to cause them more stress than they are already under.
I have the light off and will keep it off til I get the a/c fixed. I also have all the fans I have in the house going with 1 pointed directly at the aquarium trying to help. Not sure what else I can do any suggestions are appreciated.

Open the top and let the fan blow over the top of the water. It does take it down a few degrees.

What size is your tank? I dropped ice cubes (made from treated water) into my WCMM tank last year during a heat wave. Seemed to work and they enjoyed playing with them.

It is a 40 gallon tank without a hood so I'm hoping fan helps a little. I also thought about the ice cube idea but I was afraid it would make the temp bounce back and forth and stress them more. New to all this so it's a learning process for me.

What fish do you have? Some are more sensitive than others, WCMM are hard little devils so it's never bothered them and I've been doing it for three years never lost a fish.

Low-tech aquarium cooling solutions
For most of us, aquarium chillers are too expensive and installing custom build fans is too technical, so we need a simple low cost solution to keep our tanks cool. There are several methods to do this, and it is best to use more than one method alone. Here are a few tried and tested techniques:
Aerate the water
The biggest problem caused by overheating is a lack of dissolved oxygen, so increasing water movement by using an air pump or water pump placed near the surface will help to replenish oxygen as it is used up. Whilst this may not help to cool the tank, it can reduce the harmful effect on your fish

I have dwarf gourami, cory cats, guppies, and mollies. And thanks for all the tips. I'm going to try the froze water bottle one. While I wait for them to freeze I think I'm going to take my 2 ice pack and just lay them against the glass on the outside of my tank hopefully it helps a little.A little more info I have a bubble wall in my tank so hopefully that's helping and I had an extra little filter that I just put in to help move water around more

That's good, more bubbles and movement means more oxygen.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the advice. I was able to get the temp down to a steady 82 and my central air is being fixed as I type. None of the fish seem to haved suffered in anyway from the highs temp.
