tell my friends about taking care of their fish?

hi, my friends have 2 betta fish that they keep in unheated unfiltered .5 gallon containers, I want to help the fish and educate them about proper fishkeeping of coarse, and I was wondering how I could do this in a way that doesn't sound rude or condescending. Thank you!

Let others do your dirty work, muhahaha. Just kidding, I suggest sending them here, have them make an account here and have them ask how to properly take care of a betta. Or just tell them nicely that they betta need at least 2.5g, but really should be in a 5 gallon and how they need a filter and heater to be healthy. Of they oppose, well your best bet is to let the Internet talk for you. If you have a phone have links to articles that explain how to care for a betta. Hope this helps.

Platylover I was going to say the same; bring them here and we can sort them out

Maybe show them your betta when they come to visit you. Or you may talk about your betta and you may even make up a story about your broken heater and that you have to buy a new one because it needs it. Maybe they'll ask you for more info. Or tell them how your betta loves having lot of space to swim...
Or start small talk about pets and by the way ask them what kind of heater or filter they use and act surprised when they tell you they don't have one.

I agree with most everything moonraingirl says, besides the part about telling them your heater broke. Even the smallest lie can hurt a friendship, I know I'd be disappointed and less trusting of my friend if they lied about that.

yes, that's true. I wasn't sure whether to suggest that and it was a mistake. Don´t do that

I don't have a betta anymore so I couldn't really do that, but these are all great suggestions, thanks!

Your betta passed away? I'm sorry.

thanks, it was really rough. I had to euthanize him due to severe fin rot, because I was uneducated about fish at the time.
