Tap Water Ph Change?

Up until the last couple water changes I did my tap water has had a consistent PH of 7.8. The last two water changes I did the tap was 8.0 maybe slightly higher. Does anybody know why this is? If I do say 30% water change with 8.0 or even 8.2 will that effect my tanks 7.8? It’s weird it’s changed all of a sudden..

 

a change from 7.8 to 8.0 isn't much and if only changing 30% of the water that .2 change will be only a .05 change in your tank so you will be fine.

Ok thanks. What if it’s 8.2? Also do you happen to know why the tap would be different than usual?

 

My rental gets water from a “lake” that is actually a wide spot between 2 large lakes. They draw down in the winter before the spring runoff. I noticed my PH goes down during the spring, way more than yours. No much, I put coral in my filter to get it to 6.6 During the winter it was 7.0+.

If the PH swing is small and gradual, it shouldn’t affect your fish.

So many reasons why the tap water ph can change? So what do people do who’s tap water PH is constantly changing? Smaller water changes? Sorry I’m just trying to learn..

 

I would test tap PH for awhile prior to water changes just to be safe.

But David nailed it. Your .4 PH change is only .1 if doing a 25% water change. Probably better to do 25% on back to back days rather than a 50% change.
