Tap water is always too hot for water change

even turned on to the coldest setting! How do you all cope? We are in the 90's here and even when I set my water to the coldest setting, it still comes out at 78/79 degrees!

Unless I do my water change at midnight when the outside temps are in the high 60's, what else can I do???????

Floating ice bags does not help unfortunately..... Tried that and melted like 5-6 lbs and did little change.

No, not really, I keep my tank at 74/75 ( the temps eventually go down after a day or so on its own ) because I have fish with different temp needs ( loaches, etc )

No problems when its winter but by that time I use a heater for my tanks anyway......

Some people fill buckets and let them sit until reaching the desired temp

let it sit in buckets near the tank a day before a water change? Mine comes out warmer than I would like for some tanks but I don't pay it any mind

I've thought about the buckets but I have a 72 gallon tank and after doing my usual 50% water change every 2 weeks, I am not really sure I want to do that but I dunno.....

I think the only reason my water cools down after its in the tank is because I usually have the AC on at 70 degrees. Just bugs me that my water comes out that warm!

Do an early morning water change. You could also buy one of those big cheap plastic totes to hold water for cooling down.

Yeah I think I may have to. The weather has been in the 90's and 100's here when ever I want to do a water change. I may have to get a big plastic tote like you mentioned for the summer months. I really don't like that the water is almost 5 degrees warmer than what was taken out.... Thanks for your insight!

I have seen on this forum where someone rigged a power head with a hose to siphon water out of a plastic tote into the tank. I thought that was a pretty neat idea if hooking up and using the sink is not an option.

I'm sure I could use my python to get the water back in to the tank - just wish there was an easier way to NOT have warm water coming out of my tap..........

My water comes out.a lottle hotter to but wouldn't worry unless the water changes are causing a temperature swing over a couple of degrees. if its is I would try multiple smaller water changes during the week.

During summer I do almost daily small water changes how much depends on what plants I water on any given day but I would guess between 5 to 20%.

Oddly enough, the water faucet upstairs comes out ice cold.

Wish I had a 200 ft hose...........

That's really bizarre. Is there a possibility that your plumbing isn't working quite right? Maybe downstairs the water is always pulling from the heater? I can almost always get water in my faucets to come out cold. On the triple digit days it sometimes takes a few minutes though.

I dunno. The house is fairly new - that's always been my biggest complaint though, you know, the water has to be "warmed" upstairs to take a shower, etc.

Now if the outside temps are cold, then its no problem........... I wish it was the other way around and had something to do with the water heater not up or something.

Junne , It could be worse. Where I live in Fla . we had to have the house replumbed due to a leak under the slab that the house is built on. They do that by running all the new plumbing through the attic according to the new codes. You really can't rip up the whole house to replace plumbing, I went to do a water change day before yesterday with the python comes out of the tap at 96 degrees. We try do water changes early which gets it down a couple of degrees, and then lay some of the tubing into the laundry sink with ice and salt and run the python at a trickle to cool it as much as we can and the tank still ends up at 80 degrees, I keep it at 76, but by running it in so slow it allows the fish to acclimate. I can't wait for winter. Alison

Yeah I feel your pain. Our pipes are also run overhead as we are on a concrete slab. I wish I could use the faucet upstairs ( like I mentioned, its always ice cold when trying to take a shower! )

My tank finally settled at 74 degrees after leaving the downstairs window open all night and the fan running ( outside temps fell to 59 degree's )

Our outside night temps are 79 at the moment and the highs during the day are mid ninety. The only way I can get ice cold water is with ice cubes. Alison

That's pretty hot. - We were in Florida in March ( Disneyworld ) and it was not too hot at the 80's but oh so humid! We don't get humidity where I live so it seemed so much hotter. We had to leave the AC on all night even though the lows were pretty low.
We get lots of wind here from the East and our upstairs windows face the East so if the lows are predicted in the low 60's, I usually open up the windows at bed time to get a breeze going.

March is a beautiful time of year down here. The humidity is very is oppressive in the summer . I just leave the air conditioner at 72 most of the time until It finally cools down. Did you have a good time at Disney I hope. I bet your daughter enjoyed it. Alison

Yes my son ( it was his 11th birthday present ) and Mr. Junne really enjoyed our trip. We were there 8 days and did so much. We also did the Kennedy space center and Universal studios. Mr. Junne and I last visited DW in 2000 so it was nice trip for us. We are 6 hours away from Disneyland so we go there every 3 years

Woops Apologies to your son. You got to see a lot . That's neat. They are fun places to go. We took our daughter to Disney world the first time when she was 9. And hubby went with her and our two grandsons for a week when the boys were 8 and 10, they rented a convertible and had a great time It was the first time the boys had ever flown . Every body is grownup now but they are good memories. Alison

Junne, I was in the same boat last year. The water in my apartment never cooled down on those 100F+ days! I ended up doing water changes super late at night. Lol Or if we had a random cool day I'd do water changes then just because it was easier!

Our new house so far hasn't had that problem, luckily.

Oh you are so lucky! We are probably close in temps too as far as the region goes..... Luckily, when its hot out, I keep the inside of my house with AC on 24/7 so it cools down pretty good.
