Tank slightly bigger than stand

Hi! Soo I just got ahold of a custom made 40 gallon rimless tank. It's exactly 28x16x20. Problem is, I have a stand that is 27.8 long, not even a quarter of an inch shorter than the tank. Tank is made out of thick glass and I'm planning to use a foam mat under it. I know its not a good idea to leave tanks handing, but is it a bad idea to not use plywood for such small difference? I attached pictures of the measurements

Thanks in advance!

Here's how I look at it: You're probably going to be just fine if you balance the difference on each side. But...if you're like me and something DID go wrong, you'd be SO angry at yourself for not taking just a little extra time and work to reinforce it with the plywood.

i would say it would be fine, i have a 20gal and it sticks about 2-3cm over each side of stand, had for 1 yr no issues, with yours you would only have a tiny tiny tiny amount over each side i dont think any issues would happen, But you could put some plywood or even better some hardwood underneath for added support.

Thank you so much for your replies. I think I'll just bite the bullet and buy the plywood since I live in an apartment complex. Kinda annoying for an extra expense, but better safe than sorry. So excited to setup this bad boy!

Careful please.

All the weight needs to be on the rim of the tank and is transferred through the vertical glass. You need to make sure that the full thickness of the vertical class is supported by the table. Otherwise the weight of the tank is on the horizontal glass and the tank is not designed for this.

Make sure you support the full edge of the tank for at least the thickness of the vertical glass.

If you look at some commerical tank stands they are just a rim. All the weight needs to be supported around the rim of the tank, and mainly the corners.

So make the table top a big bigger by placing a board underneath the tank and you will be good.
