Tank sitting.

Fishaholics UNITE !    We all have one thing in common, when we go on vacation, we can't be gone to long, or even choose not to go, because our tanks are calling us home.

What we need is to find a like minded group from Fishlore to take a vacation at the same time and come stay in our house, take care of our tanks, and we do the same for them......

Anyone interested in Alaska in the winter time?

I like Jack Russells! What got me to thinking on this is that I am about to take off to Florida for a week, and all my babies are going to have to fend for themselves (with only the most rudimentary care from my husband) When timg and FLBettaCouple were talking about traveling about and setting up tanks for each other, it just got me to thinking. : What better way to see the world than to housesit a place with fish. Kill two birds with one stone, as the saying goes.

susitna-flower -- you're leaving rudimentary care for your husband while coming to florida to kill birds!?!? !

newtankdude - i'm a florida-boy myself, but found denver winter to be easy to handle.. the dryness makes cold weather feel less cold. but I don't think I could take that harsh winter stuff they have up in alaska.

we're up in st.auggie - you coming our way susitna-flower when you kill 2 birds in florida?

Yup! Going to a 4 day AGEL event in Orlando. My two birds include going to great seminars, about something I am really excited about, and spending 4 days with my daughter and granddaughter. Seeing FL is also a plus, however I truly feel this would be better enjoyed in Nov. - Feb. I'm not particularly a Disney fan, so won't worry with that, but maybe I can find a fish store!

lol. well we're a couple hours away from orlando. I used to go down there a lot, but with gas prices so high, I don't go down too often anymore.

And much easier to carry than some things I could think of. I have been known to bring home a cooler full of........well on the other hand one year we took a trip to GA and took a cooler full of carpentry tools and my husband did jobs while we were on vacation! 25 years of marrage, and that was the ONLY vacation we have taken! I am ready to start using some of those airline miles!

So we just met some folks that want to sell us a little bungalow on an acre of land in Hawaii! Sounds so nice, but like I said, I will have to find someone to tank sit!

ok.. first of all, I need to have a talk with your husband .. and explain to him that the idea of a vacation is to be lazy! No working and no packing 27 weeks of 'fun' into 1, like I see so many tourists do. maybe growing up in tourist-land gives me this perspective, but the main goal of a vacation is to relax & enjoy yourself and what gets done or seen is enough and you don't have to see it all and be on the go 24/7.. and it's illegal to work on a vacation!

I don't know that I could resist an acre of land in hawai'i.. especially if it was on kuaui.. how i'd love to live there!

Someone definitely needs to talk to him. I have realized over the years that if I don't want that nose to the grindstone life, I have to set about to do something different, and he MAY see the benefit and follow, but if he doesn't I can still have more quality of life, and that's OK. :
The acre is on the big island, and in an area already about 1/3 Alaskans. Do you think we have a problem up here. They are called "Snow Birds", where your tourists come from New York and NJ, which are snow birds also I guess.

The cold isn't what gets to me, it is the dark. Starting in August I start getting depressed knowing it is comming! Don't get me wrong, I love Alaska and wouldn't want to call anywhere else home.......the things that make it great really are spectacular. I can tell I am almost home when I get to the gate of the airport in Seattle, the people are just different.......warm, laid back, not pretentious. Carhartts are fashionable any where any time here. Our new Governor Sarah Palin made a joke about this when she was talking about her inaugural ball, saying that even Carhartts could be worn.

Which has brought me to another thought. IF you haven't heard of our Governor, check her out (not the site trying to smear her), but what a story! She was elected in spite of even her own party (Republican) backing the Demo. in the election! She beat out our setting Gov. in the primary, then won by a landslide in the general, running on truth and transparity in government. She still has about a 90% approval rating. Watch out Washington! She is the gutsiest politician I have ever seen, and it doesn't take her weeks of polling to make a decision and acting on something she knows is right! She JUST dismissed our entire Agricultural board because they allowed the "creamery board" to shut down Matanuska Maid, the only local dairy in the state, putting all the dairy farms up here out of business with 2 weeks notice! Can you imagine a family with 500 cows having 2 weeks notice that their whole life was shot down, and they would have to kill all their cows! You can't just shut off milking cows any other way!..........It didn't take her any time at all to go right to the heart of the problem and take action! I truly feel she will be our next Senator in Washington, and look out from there!

sounds like a really good governor.. our last governor here was pretty good and helped florida recover from 9/11 even though we're an economy based on tourism.
