Tank planning

I've got a used 29 gallon and all the gear in my truck as we speak. I'm breeding Danios, and I have an over crowded 10 gallon. I'm kicking around different ideas for the 29. I don't plan to buy anymore fish for it atm. I'm going to move the Pleco I foolishly bought spur of the moment, and the Danios into it. I'm going to breed tetras next. I think I'd like to try my hand at putting some plants in it for now. Of course after I get it all up and stabilized. Not anytime soon, but sometime I think I'd like to mess with shrimp, or frogs. This is less of a question and more of a dream with me post. If you had a new rig to play with what would you do?

FYI, a plan is already unfolding to get rid of the 10 gallon in the next 6 months and upgrade it to a 30 or larger. I wish I'd never bought that thing, but we learn.

New tank = new types of fish to gander at.

Thought that Pleco should be rehomed as a 30 isn't big enough. Consider trading it in so you can start your tetra tank.

I'm not really sure what kind of Pleco he is. He's only 2 inches long right now. At the rate I'm going I expect to stay ahead of him with tank upgrades. I totally dropped the ball on research before I got him.

That's ok, most of us have done that at one point or another. I like clown loaches, but I can't keep one in my 40gal and it's gotta find a new home fast. Even though I love it, I can't respectfully keep it. =\

What kind of tetras are you planning on breeding? I've been (failing)working on breeding my bloodfins for the past 2 months but it's probably pointless with a dozen of them, another dozen neons and shrimp all occupying the same tank. If I had more plants, I might get away with a few fry.

Congrats on the new tank and things! I spend a good 10 minutes a day skimming craigslist locally and find a bunch of amazing deals like full setups for 40 bucks or less. All differently sized tanks from hundreds to 10. With or without a stand, blah blah blah superawesomedeal blah blah. But despite showing symptoms for MTS, I can only have 2 tanks going at once... I'm slowly working to sell off my RCS and change my shrimp tank into something else.

Hmm... What if I just had 2 really big tanks....

I'm going to try my hand at breeding the glofish tetras for educational purposes. They make a great genetics lesson for my daughter. I'm still in the research stage of that idea.

Oh, the craigslist browsing is getting me too. I almost picked up a 125 gallon rig the other day for $125. It came with fish too. I opted to pass till my experience level improved. I've had a lot of luck just taking old tanks off my friends hands for free. That's how I got this 29 gallon. Another friend is offering a 75G.

Be careful. Breeding Glofish is illegal due to their being pattented.

Yep, I've read up on it. I have no interest in selling them, and I really did get on the idea to show my daughter. That's why I need more tanks. To house the little buggers.

Used tank scrubbing has started.

Congrats on the new tank.
Personally, I would treat the water, the first day, and on the second, pull media from 10 gal. rinse in tank and place in the running filter for the 29 gal. Add bacteria, TSS is preferred around these parts, but whatever, you already added bacteria with the media. Drop a few beginner plants in the tank (Anubias, Java Fern) and a 4-6 of your tetras. You should never see an ammonia spike, unless you add a lot of fish suddenly later.

BTW, plecos do great in 125 gal tanks.

I'm a ways off from all that. I just got it out of the truck. It's been in a basement for a while. I bleached everything. Now I'm doing a vinegar bath, then three rinses.

the hose popped out while I was smoking and dumped 4 gallon of water on the floor. Fortunately, I have these.

LOL,
My daughters are better at making messes than cleaning them up.
When you upgrade your 10 gal. you should keep it for a quarantine tank, will save you tons of trouble down the line.

Looking good, I'd like to see how this will turn out.

Still waiting for my gold vine driftwood to sink. I'm going for a River back look.
