Tank planning, 55g vs 75g

I'm planning out my next freshwater planted tank and I'm trying to decide what size to get. I currently have a 5, 10, and 29, and want to go bigger... but not overdo it. Originally I was thinking a 55g... but I'm not sure with how skinny it is. A 75 would give more room for hardscape and plants to create more depth. But the upsize also means a lot more money, and finding a space where a wider tank would be suitable. It took a lot of convincing with the wife to add another tank to the house, and she agreed to the 55, and hasn't said no to 75... But I don't want to go too crazy and push my luck... So, personal opinions... is a 75 a pretty big leap from a 55? Does the width of a 75 make it look a bit bulky? Would a 55 be just fine in regards to the width of it and creating depth in the tank? If you have experience with the two sizes, what do you think the main pros and cons are between them?

Well the bigger is always better if you ask me.

If you’re looking for depth, a 55 is not a good option, I have one but only because I had an idea of how I wanted to scape it

This is kindve an old pic but it is quite narrow, which I feel like limits you to more of a one dimensional scape

Only if the question "breeding tank or display tank?" for fish like dwarf cichlids or smaller gourami arises. :D

You might consider a 60 breeder. Same length as a 55, but with the increased depth (front to back) you are looking for. Much nicer proportions for aquascaping.

I have a 55 and I agree with your concerns about it.

Yeah, I figured as much, but I was hoping for more insight between the two. I'm not interested in bigger as much as visual appearance of the tank in my living room, i.e. depth vs bulkiness. I'm guessing that bulkiness isn't a real issue since no one has mentioned it though.

I would definitely be interested in a 60 breeder, but they are harder to come by. Ha, I just Google it for giggles, and it is available near me, it was just listed under the wrong category (20-39g tanks) so I didn't see it when I was searching before! Thanks! Although it's going to be nearly impossible to not go get it before the day is over... I wasn't planning to start it for a few more months... perhaps it is meant to be.
