Hi guys, not really sure where to put this thread! Basically I want a new tank lid, last time I tried this I used acrylic and it bowed really badly after a few months? Does anyone have any experience? Do I just need thicker acrylic? Or should I just go with the far more expensive option of glass?

I use the stuff in the link, twin wall polycarbonate panels. Its about 48 dollars for a 4x8 sheet, which is expensive and probably not ideal if you are just doing a single lid. But that single sheet allowed me to make 4 lids for 40 breeders, lids for a 20 long, and a couple 10 gallons - 10 Plus tank covers for about 4-5 dollars each, cant beat that. 82% light transmission so you do need to make sure you still have enough light if you have high demanding plants.

Its easy to cut to any shape, cut openings for filters, holes for feeding, etc. I even cut the front 5 inches off and hinged it back on with clear acrylic hinges so they open like a normal hood for feeding/cleaning. No warping yet after about a year. They aren't the prettiest though so if you are going for a single nice display tank I personally would just go for the glass option.

Glass is much cheaper where I am. I think it's makes the best lid. I've tried acrylic as well and had the same results...bowing.

I use the twin wall poly as well on my tanks, and it works great. I'm definitely sold on them as a lid.
