I had 20 gallon tank with 17 fishes.
Now upgrading to 60 gallon with same fishes in a week time.
Bought sun sun 304a ..running it on 20 gallon tank for 2 days now.
Can I use water of my old tank in new along with old filter..As water from old tank will be around 15 gallons and rest will be new water..

I can’t see why not. What decor and what kinds of fish? Do you have any live plants?
It would be good to already have a seeded filter but you have to check if it’s going to be enough for a tank that’s so much bigger

I will also move gravel and stones with live plant..African cichlid community tank...
Sun sun 404a is big canister filter and can be used for 150 gallon tank as manufacturer claims..

Should I overfeed my fishes for few days..
So that level of ammonia rises and act as food for new bacterial colonies to set uo in new filter...old filter is running fine..

Maybe keep running the two filters together for about the first month with the new tank so you can be absolutely sure it’s safe to use. Especially if you’re putting the cichlids straight in you don’t wanna run any risks. Over feeding will lead to ammonia but it will be more ammonia than your current working filter is used to which could shock the system and cause problems. Some people actually prefer not to feed a lot for the first day or two after changing tanks. Look into using seachem stability

That said I don’t know a lot about cichlids so maybe someone else will have some helpful input too

No need to move the old tank water, the water column contains little to no bacteria. Just move all the decor and substrate and run the old filter on the new tank alongside the old filter for a while

Although true do you suggest he uses 100% new water ?? I have nothing against it but I do huge water changes all the time anyways ..Most don't ..

I would move over ; old water ,filters and any and all decorations .
Remove and lightly rinse your gravel before installing in new tank .
Feed minimally once a day after move and test and change water as needed..

Wouldn't they need to be acclimated like any fish or creature going into a new environment? Of so, would it not then be easier and quicker to have mixed in the old water faith the new? Not to mention it's a good way to save a little water

I do large water changes myself. My tank parameters don't change much from my tap parameters. If there is a large difference then sure you can use the old tank water, didn't think of that to be honest since I don't encounter it myself.
