Just sorting out the basics. So, lemme see if I have this right.
A tall tank's advantage is more water (good! more wiggle room to recover from adverse water quality events) in a smaller space footprint (good!)
(And easier for fish that lives at different places in the water column vertically to establish their territory and stay out of other fishes way?)
The disadvantages of a tall: less oxygen per gallon because of less top surface area, and less room to swim horizontally for fishes that need that?
Am I even close? Are talls less suited for novices like me? Ask because there's a used 40 gallon on Craigslist w/stand and acc. for $40, and I can do a 40 gal tall way easier than a 40 gal long..
