Taking off the rim of a 10 gallon?

Hello! Lately I have been considering taking the top rim off my standard 10 gallon aquarium from Petco. I have read many mixed opinions on this on the web. I was wondering what you guys had to say about it. Is it safe to do? Should I add a brace to my aquarium if I derim it? Will removing the top rim harm the tank’s structural integrity? If I leave the bottom rim on will that help?

I tried with a 10 gallon and it just seemed to be too much of a hassle with having to scrape all the extra silicon off and then of course also the risk of interfering with structural integrity. That's why I went ahead and just spent the extra money and bought a rimless tank to be on the safe side.
I have seen a few youtube videos on how to do it though and it seemed pretty successful?

It was made that way for a reason.
If it is not needed the manufacturer would not have invested the money into the part.
If it's not broke dont fix it

Nothing else needs to be mentioned.
