Swordtails not breeding?

Hey guys, I have 3 swordtails 1 male and 2 females. Ive had the male for about 3 months and just got the two females. We have had them for about 3 weeks and as far as we can tell the male is completely uninterested in breeding with the females. Everyone looks healthy in the tank with the exception of one guppy who's getting growths on her tail, and tank parameters look normal. Just wondering if we have a "confused" Swordtail or if there is something else that would keep him from wanting to reproduce?

I had the same problem but then I brought home a male platy ( my sister was gonna flush him) Once the platy starting trying to breed with my female my male swordtail got jelous I guess cause now he chases her too. To bad the platy always chases the swordtail off. I'm going to rehome the platy. My swordtail thoughshould be having fry in about two weeks so I will let you know if the swordtail was sucessful or not. Maybe all you need to do is tease your male or maybe he is not sexually mature yet.
Poor males always mature slower then females.

Ok so I have had a trio of swordtails for about a year now (2f 1m) the females are blue swordtails and the male is a koi swordtail

It was never a big deal for them to breed, but I had hoped they would just to see what color combinations would result. I had added special plants for fry to hide in should they appear

but none have

do you know if swordtails won't breed if they are different strains? Should I trade out 2 koi females or 1 blue male to get them to breed?

it is all in my aquarium info, and yes I am positive of their sexes, the male's sword is almost as long as he is

after posting this thread I looked and it seems one of my blue swords is a lot skinnier, so maybe she gave birth? Right now I can't tell because the fry, if there are any, are up at the top mingling with guppies so I can't tell any kind of difference

They are probably eating them before you even see them.

Your crayfish is more then likely getting any fry... And I'm sure the guppies aren't totally innocent either... Not even the parents are totally off the hook! The point is, you've got a variety of predators picking off the fry before they can get big enough. Check your filter... You may have a few fry in there. There's also the possiblity that some are there, they're just hiding. I have floating plants at the top of my community tank so when my Molly gives birth, the survivors swim up and grow up in the floating plants. Enough food gets stuck in them they are able to grow up without having to be moved, and rarely have to come down or out of the plants for food.
