Switching Things Up

I’ve been running a canister and HOB filter on my 75 gallon tank for about a year and a half.

I‘ve never been crazy about the canister filter. The latest issue is that it’s been spitting air for about 3 months and I’ve tried everything to correct it without any luck. And I like how simple it is to maintain a HOB vs. a canister.

So, I got 2 Aquaclear 110s today. My plan is to replace the current HOB with the 110 tomorrow and then replace the canister in 3 or 4 weeks. I’ll obviously transfer the media from the existing canister and HOB to the Aquaclears.

Any suggestions? I’d imagine some folks will suggest just transferring everything and setting up both Aquaclears at the same time, but I’m chicken.

You're right, i would suggest that! But, you know your own comfort level better than anyone else would.

I’m with you. I’d do. It the same way. Use your existing media in the new filters.
I find the tidal 110 better and quieter and smaller. . Thing with aqua clears is they won’t restart after a power outage.

I’m chicken, not nuts. Well, maybe a little.

The Tidal is an awesome filter. I’ve got a Tidal 75 but wanted to give the Aquaclear a go.

Update

The good: Water clarity and media space.
The bad: 86 ssinit nailed it! This thing is LOUD!

So loud that my LFS agreed to exchange both for the TIDAL 110. I told them I want to give it a couple more days to run before I decide.

Check the case on the canister and all the tubing. Seems like air is leaking in somewhere. My guess is one of the tubing connectors is loose and air is getting in.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I thought the same thing and checked the canister and tubing.

I’m retiring from canisters for now!
