Switch Type for On Off On Lighting

Looking to rewire an old aquarium hood and use two bulbs one red or blue for night viewing and the other bulb for daylight, my question is what is required as far as the switch is it a single pole double throw stitch or a double pole double throw? I think its a SPDT switch that has on off on to select what light I want. Thanks

First question: is this a fluorescent bulb fixture or incandescent or LED?
Second: how good at following directions are you?
I can absolutely assist you in wiring up whatever you wish, but realise that if fluorescent you will need another ballast in all likely hood.
My suggestion would be using two different fixtures, your original, and second would be a small LED strip for your nightime viewing. Both of these on separate timers to eliminate any problem with remembering when to turn A on and B off. Timers I've seen for three bucks and change at Home Depot or Wal-Mart. The LED can be obtained off eBay or Home Depot, just look for one that has colors you want, some are just plain white, not great for nighttime viewing.
This is exact set-up on my fifteen gallon platy tank. Work's great, we really like the red at night, but can change to all kinds of colors. Strip is simply taped to inside of hood on the glass facing downward into tank.

It is an older incandescent style so no ballasts. I had thought about doing a Led strip or puck, l have them in a couple other tanks. I guess I was hoping to avoid a second cord and outlet. As far as a timer, my other 4 tanks have them and I just turn this one on and off with the other 4.

Also I have done 110 before (long ago) but I do deal with a fair amount of 12 and 24 and 48 volt DC and AC.

Just as a reference, a Toggle ON\OFF\ON SPDT Switch will get the job done. I place a red bulb on the left for night viewing and a daylight bulb on the right for normal use.
