Switch to a canister filter

I recently purchased a marineland 202 canister filter. I am currently running 2 hob filters, 1 is an aquaclear 70 and the other is a fluval C4. Both packed with ceramic media and mechanical pads, no carbon because I have plants. My plan is to switch all of the media from both and put them into the canister along with new media for it to seat. I just felt it was time for an upgrade. Do you guys/girls think this will be sufficient flow with the output of the canister filter. I think it will be but was curious. Thanks for the input.

What size is your tank? Canister filter is almost always going to be better than any HOB filter period. You mean 220 right? Surface agitation is important, I have spray bars on all my canister filters and they point up towards the surface to get plenty of agitation. If you're concerned with dead spots you can add an air pump/stone to get the water moving. I keep small HOB filters on my tanks packed with Poly Fil to polish my water keeps it crystal clear, otherwise I have no use for HOB filters, they can be noisy and don't hold as much media as a canister does. Plus I can wait 3/4 months before cleaning them.

I'm sorry I guess I should of specified tank size...it's a 36 bowfront. At the moment I don't have a spray bar, just the diffuser it came with....but I can always upgrade later though

Diffuser should be fine so long as you have surface agitation. You should be fine with this filter, also depends on your stocking. Keep the intake pipe as close to the middle of the tank as possible. Its the longer tanks that you probably would want 2 filters on
