SinisterCichlids
- #1
Hello all, I had something very weird happen today and I need some help. So today I introduced a few fish from my grow out tank into my main tank. Mbuna cichlids so, of course, there is going to be some hierarchy displays from the get-go. Nothing unusual but I noticed my OB Marmalade mbuna acting more aggressive towards the new tank mates. I left home for a few hours and on my return, the marmalade was stuck in the hole of a rock really bad. I tried to gently nudge him forward and backward with no luck. I decided to take vice grip pliers and start breaking away at the rock until I could get him out. I was super careful and I am pretty confident I never hurt him with the pliers. Finally, I got him out and he swam towards the bottom of the tank ... BUT THEN he flops upside down like he has swim bladder disease. And he has been this way for about an hour. He was fine all day, I think he either (1) gave himself an injury trying to swim out, (2) I injured him, or (3) another fish attacked him while he was a sitting duck stuck in a rock. His back tailfin was pretty shredded and that was not caught in a rock.
Does anyone have any idea as to what they think happened? Never had SBD before and I don't think the typical treatment methods of peas will do anything because he isn't bloated. I fasted them today anyways. He is currently in a breeder box with a small decoration from another tank holding him up. I was thinking that it would make him at least a bit more comfortable to be in the upright position then upside down. Also, does anyone know how easy a swim bladder can be damaged? Truly flabbergasted by this one guys. I don't believe the injuries are unrelated, but how quickly does SBD take to set in? He was fine earlier in the day.
A201 bciver anyone with some experience in cichlids or something like this would be greatly appreciated. I am lost here...
Here is a photo. Really dont want to lose this one. Stressed and still a showstopper...
sorry the photo flipped on me.
