Swim Bladder Disease? maybe...

I recently got a rummy nosed tetra and one of my more aggressive fish nipped part of his tail fin off(Ive since put him in a different tank)... now the poor fish just lays on the bottom of the tank upside down. What is this indicative of ? is there anything I can do?

The little tetra has the will to live... every time I go after him with the net he scurries like mad to hide. Any suggestions?

Add plants to hide in and frequent waterchanges, like 50% every other day. If it is staying upside-down the majority of the time I honestly would NOT hold out much hope for its surviving much longer. Swim bladder problems are usually from bad water conditions (either the store it was bought from or the person's personal tanks) and are usually very hard to treat in time to save the fish.

would pulling the fish out and putting it in some cleaner water do better for it? It seems to be hiding in the dark corners of the tank so far. Is the hiding a psycological reaction to its current condition? What about feeding it a pea to clear out the digestive system? thanks for the advice -- Nat

I would leave it in the current tank and just do large waterchanges, it would stress the fish less. And the less stressed a fish is the more likelyhood there if for recovery, even if small chance it is still there... But no, I don't think the pea would work.

Its kinda like.. my mother used to drink a beer every so often claiming it cleaned out her kidneys... whether it did or didn't I've never researched, however, it would be like doing that when in kidney failure... I just don't think it would really work, but I guess you could try it. What could it hurt?
