SunSun Cannister / Electrical Outlet

Currently I am running a Fluval C3 and a Maxijet400 powered sponge filter getting me 10x turn over in my 29 gallon tank. This is working ok but eventually the sponge filter will be moved to another tank, and the fluval I think I would like to use somewhere else as well.

I have been reading about the SunSun 303b w/UV. On Amazon, one of the reviews says:
Upon opening the box - I find this product very disturbing, the power cord only has 2-prong plug which is not safe especially you have UV light that in contact with water.
Without the US standard 3-prong plug you and your fish can be electrocuted or potential cause fire at your home.

I know very little about the electrical systems in homes. Is this really an issue? Is this not negated by plugging it into a grounded power strip? (the one I am using is not a surge protector but a "power center" with 4 on and 4 programmable/timed outlets from home depot, with the 3 prong plug)

(S)He sounds like a worry wart to me.
I wouldnt worry too much unless you're plugging it into a 1920's socket in a 1910's home.
If there is a fault in the socket, the breaker responsible for said socket will trip in your fuse box and cut power. Or even better, if you are hooking up your tank to an outlet with a GFI, that will trip at the first sign of any issue, before reaching your breaker box.
If you held to the advice of said reviewer, than you could say the same about every device that has a 2-pronged plug.

That is what I was thinking. I don't think any of the electrical devices I have running on my tanks use a 3 prong plug. But again, I don't know electric.

The only thing running a 3prong on my setup(s) is one of my light fixtures, everything else is 2prong. I wouldnt worry much about that advice.
I'll be getting my SunSun in another 2 days actually. It'll probably have a 2 prong plug as well, but I'm more worried about the fedex employees who've handled my parcel on its way to my doorstep than worrying about the filter burning my house down. o.0 lol

Good Luck!

I just read that the sunsun I was looking at on amazon does indeed come with a 3prong and that person was talking about an older version purchased from a different merchant.

Of the 5 brands of canisters I have, the sunsuns are the only ones that have 3 prongs. The others brands only have 2. I didn't know that they came as a 2 prong.

Non of my AQ equipment has a ground prong with the exception of 1 light.

Many home appliences are double insulated and do not require a ground.

A Class II or double insulated electrical appliance is one which has been designed in such a way that it does not require a safety connection to electrical earth (ground).
The basic requirement is that no single failure can result in dangerous voltage becoming exposed so that it might cause an electric shock and that this is achieved without relying on an earthed metal casing. This is usually achieved at least in part by having two layers of insulating material surrounding live parts or by using reinforced insulation.

If you are still afraid of electrical shock you can use some type of ground fault (gfci) outlet, circuit breaker, or power strip.

My 302 just got it in, all hooked up and running for 15 minutes or so. I'm pretty happy with it ftmp. Flow rate is good. All my bio media fits nicely in the trays. The tubing needs to be heated and uncoiled properly, but that's minor. The 302 also didnt come with any media aside from filter floss in each tray. I was under the assumption that it came with ceramic rings and some media bags, but apparently not. No biggie.
The only gripe I have are the plastic (and somewhat flimsy, so be careful) media trays. You gotta screw with them for a bit to get them to sit neatly inside one another, or the lid won't go on. I had pulled all the trays out thinking they were all uniform -- which they should be -- but perhaps from sitting packaged for so long they wouldnt reseat ontop one another well. I had to pull them out, and try one on another, and repeat til I found the sequence that allowed me to seat them together nicely. Then the lid went on without a hitch. I'm hoping that by running it for a couple weeks, it will loosen the plastic trays up so I can reseat them more easily next time I clean it.
No pics til I have it all set up on my 55 gallon (which won't be for a while yet).

Also, the 302 doesn't have a power switch, which I would find fantastically handy if it had one.
