Sump questions

As I'm researching more and more about sw reefs, I keep thinking the same thing. Where does water enter/exit the display tank, and go into the sump? Is there a pipe drilled in? Is one at the top of the tank or one at the bottom, and where is an overflow? How do diy overflows work, and is there built in overflows in tanks? Thanks!

Sorry I'm late. The water enters the tank through the return line from the sump. The water exits the tank from the overflow. You can drill or do a hob, but drilling is safer. The overflow is usually on the back of the tank. Reef ready tanks come with a pre built overflow.
