Suggestions to help get Snails to reproduce?

I have a 10 gallon I'd like to use to breed ramshorn and MTS.

I've got a layer of gravel and will be adding some plants.

Any suggestions on what plants I should get or anything else I need to do to increase my chances of getting the snails to reproduce?

I'd go cheap on plants. Java Moss, Anacharis, Hornwort, that kind of stuff. Fast-growing, easy plants.

To get them to produce, just feed a couple pieces of cucumber or something like that every few days. Do a water change every week. They should take off real quick.

Ramshorn snails and MTS reproduce readily, so that is not usually a problem, as long as parameters and feed levels are fairly steady. Good plants for such snails include thick-leaved plants such as anubias, but other plants can be used also, such as horn-wort or fast-growing plants.

Good luck with your snails!

I think you could breed those two kinds of snails in a tea cup lol. Certainly in a coffee decanter

I've tried twice already but they weren't reproducing as fast as I hear they do. First time I got MTS from lfs for $.50 each and second attempt I purchased online 18 MTS and 20 ramshorm.

should I try to find larger starting quantities?

Really? Every time I have had them in the past it seemed to start with one or 2 and then explode with no effort on my part at all. I found the trick was to keep them from breeding.

did what you come up with boost their reproduction? if so, what was it?

And yes, it's been a challenge for me. I thought at first they didn't reproduce because of my water or maybe the fish were eating them before I could see any babies.... so now I have a tank specially for the snails.

Over feed and you will get LOTS! just make sure not to way overused as that will spike your tank.

I don't mind doing frequent water changes since I already have to twice a week for my other tanks.

Now is getting the first batch of snails to start over! since the temps have been crazy I'm looking to see if I find a local lfs that carries them at reasonable prices before I buy online like I was planning to.

I have considered pea puffers but my kribs would attack them in one of my infested tanks and the peas would go after my Cory fry in the other! But this is great.

Sure. I have Green spotted puffers and pea puffers, a figure 8 is on order from one of my lfs.

I meant they got out of control quickly without doing anything.

Yup exactly why I have so many.

They like clean water to lay eggs (they'll lay more if you're doing regular water changes). You don't need to start with large numbers, just 1 ramshorn will be enough lol, I haven't kept MTS before though so don't know about them, although I assume they'd be fairly similar?.
Do you have a heater or cold water tanks? I've never kept mine in heated water, I think they prefer cooler temps but can be kept in either. They like laying eggs on anubias and vallis (well any plants really) and just the glass tank walls.
Betta food works great for them too (the fine red micro pellet/particles types) as it sinks fairly fast.
Good luck
