suggestion for unheated tank

Hello. I was wondering what yall would suggest for a newbie with an unheated planted tank. Water temp in my little 2gal is stayin 60-65*F abouts. Several hours of good ambient sunlight (about 5) and a few hours with a decent room light. I have a clip on light but haven't rigged it yet.

I was thinking to start out I should go for duckweed and hornwort. Both being pretty idiot proof and hardy from my reading. Any suggestions?

I will be adding more small tanks but just startin with this for now I know things will need trimming and all.

Thanks!

For an unheated tank and only 2 gallons? You could try some mosses, duckweed will grow for you, but it will overrun the tank.

Are you planning to keep anything in the tank with the plant?

You could also try bacopa, it has smaller leaves so might look ok in a tiny tank.

MinI Rose Moss or MinI pearl moss grows easily

Moss balls

I would suggest looking for foreground plants. They are more likely to stay shorter which will work better in a smaller tank.

Thanks. I looked at the moss balls at petsmart. I was going to get some hornwort to start when I picked up the gups but they didnt have any. I will call and ask if they have it before I go next time.

Ya I am keepin a guppy in it.

Check out Peabodys paradise, they have moss balls and hornwort I believe. jetajockey is the owner and a member here on fishlore. I have ordered plants from him in the past and they were in great shape, as well as some good root tabs for the substrate. They have a wide variety of plants to choose from.

I am attempting to go very low tech. No filter, just water changes and vacuuming as needed. The plants being naturally cleaning the water and great cover for fry once I start breeding.

You've confused me. Are you going yo have fish in your tank, or just plants?

The temperature is too low for a guppy & imo 2 gallons is also too small even with a heater.
