We get very few plants over here. I bought some stragglers and have nurtured them, the Vallis and Swords took some some to take root were coming on great and suddenly, over a week period they are looking real ropey and the leaves are yellowing and rotting.

Water checks out OK, but strip test that is. What must I look for?

Cool will dose them up now.

Silica Sand, 1.6mm (1/16th") grain size.

Thanks, I was going there too, those plants, especially the swords need additional ferts/nutrients to thrive. A few root tabs under the plants will really help.
Tip: I break the root tabs up now and disperse between a few plants. I find they don't really need all of it at once. It may run out faster, but growth stays more consistent I find.

Is Osmocote+ available where you are? If so, I 'plant' some slow release granules around the plant roots. It's a lot cheaper than buying prepared root tabs.
