Subwassertang in high light tanks?

I'm always up for trying to new plants, especially those that grow like weeds. While researching Guppy Grass, I came across this (Guppy Grass with Shrimp? | Shrimp and Crab Forum | 481409) comment from richiep about subwassertang being like an invasive weed.

As we're in the same area, it looks like this could be a good plant to try. However, all of my tanks have medium-high intensity lights which can be problematic for some plants.

Researching subwassertang, it looks like it's suitable for low light tanks but I can't discern whether it will also grow well in medium-high light tanks and it's just marketed as "low light suitable" to show how versatile it is, or if it will just die off in high-light tanks.

Thanks!

Never had good luck with it. It just busted into a million pieces and stuck to my sponge filter. It never lasted long enough to see what light worked. I prefer Guppy grass or Hornwort. Both fast growers.

Thanks! I had some success with Hornwort, but then it all just went horrible and died, in all the tanks at the same time which was weird.

I've jut put Guppy Grass in all the tanks to see if that does any better.

Is your water soft or hard? Susswassertang grows fine in my tanks. One tank with med to high lighting it grew large leaves. Look real nice. Hornwort for me only grows when floating on top of tank. My water is ph 7.0.

Hard - 7.6 (I think that's hard?).

Excellent, maybe I will give it a go.... I'll see if I can find anybody local willing to share :) there's someone on Etsy trying to sell a bunch for £15!!

No 7.6 is neutral. VERY good. :) Lucky.
Edit I guess 7 is neutral, but you still have great water.

Well, in that case, it has been a lot of hard work to get it to that! I'm taking credit and it's definitely not just what the water comes out the tank like......

Mine is 8.2 rock water. Only thing to hit that would be RO and I'm not willing to participate in that as of yet. Too much water to change a 55g, 9g and 2- 5g.

Good luck with the Guppy grass. :)

That’s good for African cichlids though! Something I often think about but don’t want the hassle of trying to up my pH.

Thanks :) here’s hoping it grows so well it becomes a pain in the bum :)

My water is pH 7.2, gH !0, kH 4.5. I got a tiny clump as a gift. It didn't do any growing for what seemed like forever and then one day is started reproducing to the point where I have to throw some out! It's such a cool plant. If I were crafty I'd make Subwassertang back grounds for all my tanks,
I should have mentioned that my tanks are lighted with Finnex Vivid LED's and what with the water lettuce floating in the tanks I'd call them medium light tanks. I use sponge filter. IME the water lettuce and the Subwassertang prefers low lower flow,

Its very slow growing i medium light and dont know why I think that's why its expensive to buy in the uk
My comment on JettsPapa I can grow subwassertang like an invasive weed was due to their water conditions compared to ours, most use well water with lots of good stuff in

It does well for me, but it took two days longer than forever to get acclimated to my water conditions. I'd rate my tanks as low to medium light (the less expensive LED lights, on 8 hours per day).
