Substrate Modification In Preparation For New Plants

I'll be planting Dwarf Hairgrass and S. Repens in a 10 gallon tank, which currently has black gravel. Rather than removing and replacing the gravel, I'd like to mix in a different type of substrate to it that is more conducive to plant growth. I was thinking Eco complete of Seachem Flourite. I suppose I could replace all of the gravel if that would be better, but I'd rather not.

What is your reason for not removing the black gravel? Not disagreeing with the decision but just wondering.

I suppose because I just built the tank and don't necessarily want to tear it all back down again. I guess it isn't too big of a deal. I want the new plants to have the best chance at flourishing.

For that it would be best to replace all of it IMO but you could do like a 50/50 mix and add some root tabs

For the dwarf hairgrass I would strongly encourage a soil substrate such as Controsoil or Tropica soil.
