Substrate Hills & Slopes Techniques

There is the rock method, the plastic supports, old gravel in pantyhose, egg crate/light diffusers etc...

I just had an idea of using the disposable tupperware containers in the tank to get a good height. It's food safe, cheap and in theory I think it will work. Fill the container with the substrate and you already got height. then the substrate should fall around it and make a good mound.

(not sure if its safe to post but the link to the original page is there)

What have you guys had success with for banking, sloping or making hills and mounds in substrates?

Interesting post. To be honest, I normally just scape by hand, building up mounds where I want them to be. If the fish have a tendency to redecorate, I figure it's their house, not mine! Also, when they redecorate, the tupperware etc would begin to show if I put anything else in there. I'm sure there's viable reasons and methods to get it to work; just haven't found the need in my setups.

Those are good points, but I'm looking for a more extreeme slope. I think I'll try it by hand and use the James Findlay method with plastic supports.

Stay tuned for pics! I might start this project today if I'm feeling sassy.

Well, turns out I didn't need any substrate support. Eco complete hold up pretty well.

Mind you, I used about 75lbs of it in my 29gal haha
